Project Background

Supporting Transformation for Afghanistan’s Recovery (STAR)

 program is USAID funded program. The objective of this program is to support vulnerable conflict-affected households in Afghanistan to be resilient to shocks. International Medical Corps aims to implement Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project in  Nangarhar and Kunar provinces under the STAR consortium to support the vulnerable conflict-affected households in this sector, including providing safe drinking water at communal, school and health facility level, the establishment of sanitation infrastructures at schools and health facilities, and mobilizing targeted communities for hygiene education at household and communal levels.

Job Purpose

WASH Hygiene Promoters is responsible for  conducting hygiene awareness sessions and hygiene awareness at community & household level, hygiene kit distribution, solid waste cleanup campaigns and  maintaining a close relationship with the communities to facilitate a smooth program and project implementation. S/he will ensure the smooth running of assigned hygiene activities in the targeted areas and report to the WASH Officer.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct hygiene promotion sessions and home visiting.
  • Conduct hygiene promotion for community hygiene promoter
  • Supervise community hygiene promoters.
  • Distribution of hygiene kits.
  • Participate in solid waste clean-up campaigns.
  • Conduct baseline and end line KAP survey.
  • Submit daily data to the data entry clerk
  • Working in a team and ensure that problems are identified in the initial stages and solved those amicably. 
  • Provide support to the WASH Officer with adequate information, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting and problem-solving.
  • Attending all relevant meetings requested by the supervisor relevant to the project goals.
  • Assist in other duties requested by the supervisor.

As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.  Conducts work with the highest level of integrity

  • It is all staff’s shared responsibility and obligation to safeguard and protect populations with whom we work, including adults who may be particularly vulnerable and children. This includes safeguarding from the following conduct by our staff or partners: sexual exploitation and abuse; exploitation, neglect, or abuse of children and adults at risk; and any form of trafficking in persons.

Qualifications

  • Graduated from 12 class of High school.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with government and/or NGOs in hygiene promotion in the fragile environment/region.
  • Good coordination, networking, interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Good communication and liaison skills with the community and all staff.
  • Written and spoken English is a plus.
  • To be able to propose solutions to the identified problems/challenges.
  • Flexibility is requested regarding the working hours and the live-in community after the working hours.

Flexibility/adaptability: This requires the candidate to have the sufficient capacity to adapt to the IMC work methodology and different work environments (office and field) that the candidate might have later during a mission.

Important Point: You will be asked to travel or be deployed anywhere within the program area to perform services. There may be some insecure areas where you may need to travel and perform the activity without any hesitation in coordination with the security department.
