Job Descriptions:

Defining, coordinating, monitoring all midwives and maternity related activities in a project area, according to INTERSOS policies, protocols and standards to provide a high-quality SRH services to the population across Afghanistan

Note: Sexual and Reproductive health activitie SRH Activities include: antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, obstetrical care (BEmONC), neonatal and comprehensive abortion care, management of victims of sexual violence, female genital mutilation, reproductive tract infections and Fistula care. Note: 2. BEmONC = basic emergency obstetric and neonatal care = Administration of antibiotics, oxytocics, anticonvulsants, manual removal of the placenta, removal of retained products following abortion, assisted vaginal delivery, preferably with vacuum extractor and newborn care including neonatal resuscitation.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Planning, organizing and ensuring the implementation and supervision, in close collaboration with other medical staff, on all Sexual and Reproductive health activitie(ANC, PNC, FP and safe & clean Delievery services )
  • Informing other medical managers or doctors about any possible operational issues, patient complications(i.e. worsening of state of patients, problems in medicines, etc.). Coordinating and assessing the feasibility for referral of pregnant women to receive further medical evaluation and management
  • Assisting and collaborating with the field doctors , nurses or midwives when required (normal or complicated deliveries, SV cases, etc.), to complement the existing human resources and contribute to the resolution of complicated cases.
  • Ensuring proper follow-up of all the new-born babies post delivery until discharge and that all pregnant women and newborn children are referred to the Extended Program on Immunization (EPI)
  • Supervising the proper distribution of drugs and use of materials, keeping track of consumption patterns and supply orders, and monitoring inventories, together with the project logistician. Training the midwife and maternity staff in order to ensure having minimum levels of stock to carry out the activities of the project and a rational and appropriate use of material resources
  • In coordination with the project biomedical service supervising the appropriate use of medical devices and anticipating and communicating future needs
  • Managing and supervising the midwives in the projects including individual performance apraissals for the staff annually
  • Partcicipating in the  HR processes for midwives in the project (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, motivation, internal/external communication, etc.) in order to improve staff capabilities and to en-sure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required
  • Ensuring and supervising the implementation of protocols by all staff under his/her responsibility in order to improve the quality of the healthcare given to population and to prevent any infection due to staff malpractices
  • Conduct regular field visits to the project to monitor SRH activities and provide reports and feedback to the project and technical teams in the mission. This should include the follow-up visits  to ensure quality SRH services are implimented across the projects
  • Participating in project proposals on SRH activities and implementation within projects

 

Training of clinical and subordinate staff

 

  • Identifying  training needs and gaps among the staff and Plan for training sessions
  • Conduct onjob training and capacity building sessions for staff while monitoring SRH activities in the field
  • Ensure all trainings done have reports done and submitted to the project managers and partners for donor reporting and future referencing

Monitoring and reporting

 

  • Supervising administrative procedures and documents, analysing rou-tine data for monitoring purposes, and being responsible for the col-lection and analysis of medical statistics and reporting of SRH activi-ties (participation in epidemiological reports and monthly reports ac-cording to guidelines) in order to have updated and correct information about the day-to-day activity in the project and to provide support in the decision-making
  • Participating in the definition and update of annual project planning and budget, and if needed, in any emergency activity or SRH assessment visits in or out of the project area.

Job Requirements:

  • University degree or Diploma in midwifery.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience as midwife in the humanitarian sector or busy maternity unit
  • Experience with monitoring tools and systems in the health and nutrition sectors
  • Training in BEmONC is preffered
  • Proficiency in English, Pashto and Dari languages is highly essential.
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
  • Commitment to INTERSOS principles.
