New way Social & Development Organization is a development, advocacy, and humanitarian organization established in 2011 and registered with the Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan. Organization is based in Kabul, with programming hubs across the north and northeastern provinces of the country. Organization strives to empower the vulnerable and marginalized communities suffering from the impacts of war, natural calamities, poverty, and injustice. Additionally, Organization is also working on the idea of integrated development, which encompasses socio-economic, cultural and good governance. Community Empowerment is the core to Organization’s strategy to engage with grass-root groups and communities to address the root causes of poverty, inequalities and injustice.

Job Descriptions:

  • Analyze the local vegetable value chain, identifying key actors, market dynamics, and improvement opportunities. 
  • Evaluate existing value chain systems, identifying strengths and weaknesses. 
  • Conduct market assessments for identified products/services and establish market linkages for growth and sustainability. 
  • Develop training curriculums and materials for vegetable farmers, covering topics like crop management, pest control, organic farming, and value chain best practices. 
  • Organize and conduct training sessions for farmers, focusing on both on-farming and off-farming aspects. 
  • Provide technical assistance to ensure effective implementation of training outcomes. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vegetable farmers, input suppliers, processors, retailers, and other stakeholders in the value chain. 
  • Organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration. 
  • Collaborate with the project manager and community mobilizer to establish VESA and WABCs, promoting community engagement and collective action. 
  • Support VESA and WABC members in their roles, facilitating economic and social development activities. 
  • Establish Farmer Field Schools as practical learning platforms for local farmers, organizing sessions and field visits to share knowledge and best practices. 
  • Collect and analyze data related to vegetable production, market trends, and value chain performance. 
  • Promote innovative technologies and sustainable practices in vegetable production and processing. 
  • Encourage the adoption of digital tools for data collection and management. 
  • Ensure appropriate and timely implementation of vegetable value chain activities. 
  • Develop and maintain a database of supply chain and value chain actors. 
  • Contribute to project work plans, benchmarks, and deliverables. 
  • Manage project resources, including budget, materials, and human resources. 
  • Prepare reports on project activities and outcomes, ensuring compliance with donor guidelines. 
  • Coordinate horizontal and vertical linkages between value chain actors. 
  • Assist in forming value chain partnerships and networks. 
  • Support and oversee the activities of sub-sector Associations and Institutions. 
  • Promote peace and conflict-sensitive project design and implementation. 
  • And other duties assigned by Project Officer.

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma (12th grade) with 5 years of related work experience, Bachelor's / Master's degree in agriculture, rural development, natural resources management, environmental studies, economics, or a related field.
  • At least 1 - 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven expertise and experience in community resilience and Agro business value chain development, conflict sensitivity, market analysis, value chain upgrading, quality standards. 
  • Excellent leadership, management, and communication skills.. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills, with ability to adapt to changing situations and cope with challenges. 
  • Excellent report writing skills, with ability to produce clear, concise, and quality reports for internal management and external reporting to the donor. 
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Dari and/or Pashto is an asset. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant project management software applications.
