About DAI/Afghanistan Value Chains Program (AVCP):

Afghanistan Value Chains Program (AVCP), a USAID-funded program implemented by DAI Global, LLC (DAI), supports the expansion of sustainable agriculture-led economic growth across Afghanistan. AVCP achieves this goal through the support of anchor firms in the livestock and crops value chains. AVCP partners with and supports anchor firms through a market systems development approach, implemented through ‘Deal Notes’ which are co-designed agreements that respond to critical constraints while driving project outcomes. In implementing Deal Notes, AVCP works almost exclusively with agribusinesses and key value chain stakeholders to increase sales, investment, and productivity, among other key indicators. The growth of the anchor firms promotes the efficiency, profitability, and strengthening of the value chains with a direct and positive impact on rural economies, households, and livelihoods. The AVCP focuses its interventions on key value chain leverage points, such as input suppliers or traders linked to large wholesalers, processors, and farmer associations. In doing so, AVCP will accomplish the following fundamental sub-purposes:

Sub-Purpose 1: Increased Productivity and Stability of Value Chains

Sub-Purpose 2: Improved Commercial Viability and Operational Efficiency of Agribusinesses

Sub-Purpose 3: Engage Afghan Women in Agriculture

Sub-Purpose 4: Climate Change Mitigation and Resiliency Strengthened.

Job Descriptions:

The Strategic Communications Specialist will work under the supervision of the Communications and Reporting Manager to assist with providing a broad range of communications, branding, public relations, and reporting support activities.

  • Support the communications team with regard to project promotional materials, including success stories, brochures, interviews, exhibit displays, multi-media efforts, and other publications; and facilitate their distribution.
  • Manage the project’s social media platforms and websites and lead the development of Audio-Visual Media such as the project’s documentary, infographics, and videography productions.
  • Serve as a project photographer/videographer and ensure that project photos/videos are appropriately filed, utilized, and protected with a photo release form.
  • Support in preparation of the project’s events to boost visibility.
  • Ensures AVCP’s activities and developments are accurately told in snapshots, highlights photographs, and other visuals in AVCP reporting.
  • Responds to data calls, requests for information, developing presentations, press releases and newsletters etc.
  • Provide quality assurance review on USAID branding and marking requirements.
  • Review project external communications and project-sponsored academic materials to ensure quality control and consistency with project intellectual property agreements.
  • Provide support and assistance to the Communications and Reporting Manager with the production of all program reports required by USAID, including weekly, monthly, quarterly annual reports and other documents as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by line supervisor and his/her designee.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in communications, Journalism, or other relevant field with 4 years of relevant experience in USAID or donor-funded projects OR Baccalaureate plus 7 years relevant overall experience.
  • Previous communications and/or reporting experience with USAID and other donor projects required.
  • Experience compiling and editing reports, newsletters, marketing materials, and success stories.
  • Knowledge of USAID reporting requirements, branding and marking regulations.
  • High proficiency in creative and professional writing (English and Dari); skills in copy-editing and quality control measures.
  • Experience in photography, videography, development of infographics, photoshop, and other design products highly preferred. Familiarity with maintaining and updating website content a plus.
  • Fluent in Dari and English spoken and written required. Pashtu a plus.
