Job Descriptions:

RESPONSIBILITY SUMMARY

The Advocacy officer position is a full-time position that is responsible for providing support to the Engagement & Communications Department of ACBAR in Afghanistan. Regular hours of work are 8 hours Sunday through Thursday or as scheduled during travel and as noted in the Employee Handbook.

ESSENTIAL TASKS

Essential tasks include the following:

  • Support the development of ACBAR’s advocacy and communications with researching, analyzing, strategizing, organizing, executing, monitoring and evaluating for the roll out of the strategic priorities-goals-objectives as stated in ACBAR’s strategic plan, WHH project and other.
  • Handling the execution of communication products, i.e., developing newsletters, content creation for social media platforms, accounts management and engaging with audiences, etc.
  • Drafting context analysis reports, performance tracking and providing feedback.
  • Contribute to all kinds of advocacy events/activities e.g., workshops, campaign, research, working groups, civil society/governmental for meetings and communication products (including social media).
  • Represent the Advocacy Manager and ACBAR in meetings in his absence with analytical briefing and follow up.
  • Support all ACBAR departments on the work field of advocacy and communications.
  • Give administrative and logistic support to advocacy and communication events/activities.
  • Support the development of ACBAR’s online and offline communications.
  • Media coverage (film, photos and/or audio) in English, Dari and Pashto including a quality check of the translation on every communication product.
  • Weekly update of the website and Social Media resources by overseeing (general and in detail) the strategic priorities, goals, objectives as stated in ACBAR’s strategic plan, including a quality check of IT-department. Also moderating comments on the Social Media resources, expanding the Social Media reach and impact and creating new manners of communications. Building ACBAR’s reputation on a dynamic manner with high quality.
  • To compile pictures for ACBAR’s database.
  • To develop and maintain ACBAR’s Civil Society network in Afghanistan.
  • To update the database of Civil Society actors and Advocacy Working Group (AWG) in Afghanistan.
  • To participate in Civil Society activities on behalf of ACBAR with analytical briefing and follow up to the Advocacy Manager and senior management if needed.
  • To reach out to the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Kabul and the provinces to explain the role and mandate of ACBAR with explicit integration of the strategic priorities, goals and objectives.
  • To share Civil Society awareness and information/advise with ACBAR-staff and members.
  • Follow the regulations, staff policies and respect the organization structure
  • Perform any other task as requested by Line Manager and/or Senior management including assisting colleagues in other departments.

Job Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ATTRIBUTES

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or attribute required.

  • Knowledge of Afghan NGO law
  • Tech-savvy and technologically adept in order to deal with different communication requirements and at great speed (e.g. MailChimp, website and Social Media). In addition to Word, Power Point and Excel.
  • Knowledge of NGO community, civil society, Government of Afghanistan and international community governance including humanitarian, development and peacebuilding areas
  • Ability to coordinate and cooperate internally (staff and members) and externally (civil society, press/media, and Government of Afghanistan)
  • Ability to write in English, Dari/Pashto
  • Ability to follow instructions and to ask for help when necessary
  • Courteous and polite when representing ACBAR

EDUCATION, TRAINING and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 4 years of working experience and 2 years of relevant experiences.

LANGUAGE SKILLS, MATHEMATICAL SKILLS AND REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to communicate relevant professional issues in analytical
  • Ability to speak and write English (mandatory), Dari and Pashto preferred
  • Ability to forecast programmatically and financially relating to advocacy and communications duties.
