About Turquoise Mountain:

The Turquoise Mountain Institute for Afghan Arts and Architecture (TMI) is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit vocational training institute established in 2006, providing high-quality training across four schools: calligraphy & miniature painting, woodworking, ceramics, and jewelry and gem cutting. The Institute is registered with the Afghan Ministry of Education and is also accredited with City & Guilds, a UK-based vocational training body. The Institute is funded by the Trust but is overseen by its own Board of Directors.

Job Descriptions:

As a Calligraphy Junior teacher, she is fully responsible to teach Calligraphy Subject and manage his own classes based on academic standards, her duties range from the preparation of course work, planning of classes and marking the work handed in. On top of this she will also have to arrange any extracurricular activities and set targets for her pupils. She must report from all her classes related activities to the head of Department. she will teach Islamic Calligraphy techniques to the 13th-15th class students based on the current curriculum. As a master of Calligraphy Art, she will also have the responsibility to review this subject current curriculum or produce the new one if required. If there is not any specific study material for teaching the teacher is responsible to prepare at least a chapter during a semester according to the subject curriculum from valid resources under the direct supervision of head of Calligraphy Department. You should work from home and should be available during the working hours. Design and develop course curriculum for online courses, instruct students in an online setting, record the lessons in video format. As master of art, you are responsible to design and create master pieces.

Core Responsibilities:

  • She is responsible for teaching Calligraphy Subject according to the available TMI curricula guideline the seven Islamic scripts (Haft Qalam)   
  • Mange class, internal and external exhibitions with collaboration with other team members
  • Preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes.
  • Marking work, giving appropriate feedback, and maintaining records of students’ Progress and development.
  • Teaching theorical/practical classes.
  • Selecting and using a range of different learning resources and equipment.
  • Undertaking pastoral duties and supporting students on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties.
  • Preparing students for qualifications and external examinations.
  • Managing students’ behavior in the classroom and on school premises, and applying appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehavior.
  • Participating in departmental meetings and whole school training events.
  • Liaising with other professionals, such as Education senior officer or director of institute.
  • Undergoing regular observations and participating in regular on job training as part of continuing professional development
  • Teaching in the institute, which takes students aged 18-25, teaching the institute curriculum appropriate to the age of the students.
  • Plans lessons in line with targeted objectives to ensure that students learn. He also encourages, monitor and record the progress of his students.
  • Support, observe and record the progress of his class. He also plans lessons in line with targeted objectives with the aim of ensuring a healthy culture of learning.
  • Keep up to date with developments in their subject area, new resources, methods and objectives. The instructor liaises and networks with other professionals, parents and careers both informally and formally.
  • Reviewing the current Calligraphy subject’s curriculum and /or develop the new curriculum based on the market requirement.
  • Working from home and be available during the official working hours.
  • Recording the lessons in video, audio, pdf or other formats according to their subject need, and sharing with students through online groups.
  • Preparing study materials (chapter) according to subject curriculum from valid resources.
  • Design and produce masterpieces.
  • Other tasks given by the TMI authorities or by line manager. 
  • Daily School Supervision. 

Job Requirements:

  • 14 grades from the related fields, bachelor’s degree from the related fields will be preferred.
  • Having practical experience in the related field.
  • Having the best teaching ability to transfer the knowledge and skills to the learners.
  • Having the skill of live writing to demonstrate her abilities and skill of arts of calligraphy.
  • Proving displayed her art in exhibitions.
  • Having the best communication skills. 
  • Familiarity with both national languages.
