About Concern Worldwide- Afghanistan:

Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Currently, Concern has been working in Afghanistan since 1998, when it responded to an earthquake disaster in Takhar province. Currently Concern has been working in Takhar and Badakhshan provinces undertaking both emergency response and long term developmental work in the areas of livelihood security, primary education and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. 

Job Descriptions:

Main duty and responsibility

  • Lead the CDF team to mobilize community members to take part in all community development work, considering project intervention/activities.
  • Introduce and use an appropriate approach to Conducting community mobilization to increase their participation in the project activities.
  • Insure, Sign MoU with CBDMCs/school management committee to define roles and responsibilities between ARC partners and interested CBDMCs.
  • Lead the Facilitation of exposure visits for WS committee’s youths to see Eco-DRR interventions.
  • Enhancing the capacity of CBDMC/WMC to monitor watershed and disaster mitigation interventions after flooding in the communities.
  • Insure and record organizing regular meetings with CBDMC/WMC to repair the damaged structure because of flooding in the communities.
  • Facilitate First aid training and distribution of first aid kits to schools.
  • Conducting Eco-DRR education for schools (ToT for teachers and distribution of posters).
  • Mobilize the community to attend training for men and women farmers in efficient irrigation/water use methods and technologies.
  • Conducting Assessment to select climate-resilient crops and livestock products in the target communities.
  • Organizing Community dialogue sessions to promote acceptance of women's participation in economic life.
  • Lead organizing Participatory appraisals to identify local potentials and political and technical challenges relating to agricultural and livestock-based livelihoods.
  • Facilitate meetings and support men and women to form producer groups and provide basic training in producer group functioning and management.
  • Trainings for women's producer groups in women's rights, group management, and women's leadership.
  • Facilitate Distribution of agricultural/livestock inputs for men and women (timeline may vary dependent on crop/livestock product).
  • Roll out training to targeted livestock owners on pasture and livestock management (fodder use and cultivation, grazing control, rotational grazing, and benefits of diversifying fodder plants, stable management, and animal feeding practices for livestock owning households and producer groups).
  • Roll out the training for targeted farmers on cultivating wheat seed, legumes and flax through improved agriculture techniques (mulching, crop rotation, applying chemical fertilizers/micro-dosing, applying compost, applying manure, terracing, irrigation, Integrated Pest Management, and Integrated Weed Management, and home storage of seed) and additional topics as relevant to each target location.
  • Assist village leaders to ensure that the poorest and most vulnerable groups in the community (including women) are target and included in all agricultural program activities.
  • Conduct animal disease control trainings and coaching to the targeted livestock owners on vaccination process, and make sure livestock groups have knowledge about benefit of animal vaccination (Anthrax spore vaccine, Black leg vaccine, enterotoxaemia vaccine, contagious caprice pleura pneumonia vaccine, Hemorrhagic Septicemia).
  • Support and follow up the Watershed Management Committee implementation progress on the plantation and cultivation of seeds in the watershed areas.
  • Technically support and coach producer groups to mature and develop in their financial and social support mechanisms.
  • Facilitate and assist the establishing of linkages between community and Veterinary Field Unit (VFU).

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Document best practices in agriculture, livelihood, watershed, producer group and gender.
  • Provide accurate data to the SPO to weekly update the output tracking as per the achievement of the planned activities.
  • Submit accurate daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly work plans and reports to SPO.
  • Liaise with agriculture livestock officer and non-farm livelihood officer for implementing and monitoring the food security, producer group, and livelihood income generation activities. 
  • Ensure government participation in key social events such as trainings, exposure visits and workshops.
  • Record data for each implemented activities as per the output indicator-tracking database provided by the MEAL Officer.

Emergency/ CHS (Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS):

  • Concern is committed to CHS to ensure downward accountability. CHS standards guide Concern activities in all stages both emergency and development projects /programs. In Afghanistan, we also bounded our activities by Accountability framework and therefore any Afghanistan employees is responsible to comply with CHS principles and benchmarks as instructed by its policies and therefore make sure that all accept and implement CHS standards in all our activities.
  • To give full support in relation to emergencies/ humanitarian operations when occurring in any area that Concern Afghanistan will respond. This can include but is not limited to participation in the Concern Afghanistan Rapid Deployment Unit (CARDU) and deployment on emergency response teams.

Job Requirements:

Qualification & Experience:

  • Diploma/degree in BBA, Economic, Agriculture, watershed, veterinary or any other relevant field from a reputable University.
  • At least 1 or 2 years of work experience with NGOs in agriculture, livestock, watershed or any other relevant to the fields.
  • Skills in Computer (MS Word and Excel and PowerPoint.
  •  Agricultural production, processing, irrigation, and/or integrated pest management and disease prevention and treatment).

Competencies & Skills:

  • Excellent Dari speaking and writing ability.
  • Good spoken and written in English  and Dari
  • Respect for local culture
  • Sensitivity towards gender and attitude practices.
  • Faith in people’s knowledge and capacity
  • High team working Ability.
  • Develop and submit accurate monthly work plans and reports to SCDF.
  • Oral and written communication in Dari and other local languages
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Experience using digital devices such as computers and DDG.
  • Ability to work with community members and spend at least 90% of time in the field as committed.
