Job Descriptions:

Under the overall supervision of National Health Operation officer and the direct supervision of Senior Project Assistant (Migration Health), the Incumbent will assist in ensuring basic medical screening is carried out, particularly in the areas of reproductive, maternal and child health care. Critical medical cases will be referred for additional services through partners, government, and private hospital partners. It must be emphasized that although this position will work at fixed health posts where necessary, the primary working modality of this position will be within the context of an ambulance bound Mobile Health Team which will include one doctor, one nurse, one midwife, one MHPSS Counsellor and one support staff. The team will be deployed based on identified health needs amongst migrant and displaced populations. Deployment areas may include IDP settlements in rural or remote areas.

S/he is expected to carry out Her/his duties in accordance with the strictest ethical standards, building and maintaining partnerships with Government, international organizations, and non-governmental agencies, and with due respect for gender and socio-cultural sensitivities.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct counselling and health education for pregnant and lactating women and mothers of all under two years’ children on appropriate infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices
  2. Conduct anthropometric measurement (weight height and age) MUAC and check edema of all under five children.
  3. Classification of all under five children in categories of well-nourished Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) and Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM)
  4. Refer to proper services based on classification to address nutritional status.
  5. Conduct regular nutrition education, COVID-19, ANC, PNC, FP, drinking water, at health facility.
  6. Food demonstration at community where possible
  7. Register and measure weight, height, Mid Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) of children under 5 years of age at the MHNT site and pregnant and lactating women.
  8. Provide treatment for MAM and MAM children at the MHNT site as appropriate or refer the SAM cases to the nearby treating centres.
  9. Conduct follow up visits on Bi-weekly basis to assess condition of SAM children and provide ration based on the IMAM guideline.
  10. Administer Vitamin A if the child has not received Vitamin A supplementation during the previous NID.
  11. Promote consumption of iodized salt and healthy diet.
  12. Responsible for conducting all other nutrition activities such as Growth monitoring of all U2 year children and screening of children under five and PLWs for acute malnutrition using MUAC or weight\height scale for children.
  13. Register and report all activities including the supplies distributed, the number of beneficiaries, the SAM and MAM cases, the date and location of services, and report those on monthly bases.
  14. Reefer the children and reproductive-age women to the vaccinators for relevant vaccination.
  15. Communicate effectively with the targeted communities, ensuring that hygiene and health messages are passed on with participatory interventions, allowing ownership and empowerment to positively influence their health and hygiene practices.
  16. Promote safe health and hygiene practices including appropriate use and maintenance of Health and WASH facilities.
  17. Contribute to weekly MHT staff meetings for program development and problem solving.
  18. Provide complete accurate and on time monthly activity reports, entered daily into Kobo.
  19. To ensure safe and dignified treatment of all beneficiaries.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

Diploma in nursing from an accredited academic institution with One year of working experience.

Experience

  • Experience in relevant clinical fields
  • Previous experience in international organizations is an advantage. Knowledge and experience with working in the field and medical emergency department and Trauma management will be added as an advantage.
  • Effectively applies knowledge of clinical skills, bedside manner, infection control, administering medication, phlebotomy, maintenance, etc.
  • Adequate practical knowledge of handling child delivery and its complication
  • Works effectively with local authorities, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.

SKILLS

  • Ability to move or lift patients.

Languages

Fluency in Pashtu

Working knowledge of Dari and English is required.

Speaking additional local languages are advantageous.
