Site Engineer- Greenhouse Project

The Action for Welfare and Development of Rural Environment Organization (AWDREO) is a non-governmental, non-profit, and non-political organization founded in 2015 by a group of passionate young professionals dedicated to contributing to Afghanistan’s development. AWDREO’s mission is to engage in multi-sector programs across Economic Empowerment, Education, Women’s Rights, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and Humanitarian Response. In alignment with the Afghan government’s efforts, AWDREO targets marginalized groups, including women, girls, youth, children, the illiterate, and the poor in rural communities, aiming to foster peace, stability, and sustainable development.

The Site Engineer will be responsible for providing technical supervision and on-site engineering support for the construction and installation of greenhouse facilities. The position will ensure that all construction activities including site preparation, foundation works, structural assembly, irrigation installation, and related works are implemented safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved technical specifications, drawings, designs, quality standards, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide technical supervision of greenhouse construction and installation activities.

Supervise site preparation, excavation, leveling, and foundation works.

Oversee greenhouse structural assembly, including frames, columns, trusses, supports, and doors.

Supervise irrigation system installation, including pipes, pumps, filters, valves, and drip systems.

Ensure all works comply with approved drawings, technical specifications, BOQs, and quality standards.

Conduct quality inspections and verify dimensions, levels, alignment, materials, and workmanship.

Identify and resolve construction defects, technical issues, and deviations.

Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, technicians, and project staff.

Monitor contractor performance and construction progress against the approved schedule.

Maintain site records, measurements, inspection reports, and construction documentation.

Prepare technical and progress reports for the Project Manager.

Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Support testing, commissioning, inspection, and handover of completed greenhouse facilities. 

Perform other technical and engineering duties assigned by the Project Manager.

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.

Relevant professional experience in construction supervision, preferably involving greenhouses, agricultural infrastructure, irrigation systems, or similar facilities.

Good knowledge of construction methods, structural works, concrete works, and irrigation installation.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and bills of quantities.

Experience in site measurements, quality control, contractor supervision, and progress monitoring.

Good knowledge of construction, health and safety requirements.

Proficiency in MS Office and, preferably, AutoCAD or other relevant engineering software.

Strong communication, coordination, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
