Salma Consulting Services is a research and consulting firm providing services in research, assessments, monitoring and evaluation, data collection, data management, analysis, and reporting for humanitarian, development, private sector, and other organizations.

To support its research, assessment, evaluation, and monitoring assignments, Salma Consulting Services is seeking a qualified Field & Research Data Collection Coordinator.

The position will be responsible for coordinating field activities, supervising data collection teams, supporting research implementation, ensuring data quality, managing field personnel and consultants, and contributing to data management, analysis, visualization, and reporting.

 

Job Description

. Purpose of the Position

The Field & Research Data Collection Coordinator will support the planning, coordination, supervision, and implementation of quantitative and qualitative research activities.

The position will work closely with the Technical Director, project managers, researchers, consultants, supervisors, enumerators, and data management staff to ensure that field activities are completed according to agreed methodologies, timelines, ethical standards, and data quality requirements.

 

3. Key Responsibilities

3.1 Field Coordination and Team Supervision

·       Coordinate day-to-day field research and data collection activities.

·       Develop fieldwork plans, data collection schedules, and team deployment arrangements.

·       Coordinate and supervise enumerators, field supervisors, facilitators, and other field personnel.

·       Support recruitment, shortlisting, training, briefing, and debriefing of field teams when required.

·       Assign daily workloads and geographic coverage to data collection teams.

·       Ensure field teams understand project objectives, questionnaires, sampling requirements, and field procedures.

·       Monitor field progress against agreed targets and timelines.

·       Review team performance and provide regular feedback and guidance.

·       Coordinate with local stakeholders, respondents, communities, and relevant institutions when required.

·       Identify operational challenges and report them promptly to the Technical Director or project management team.

·       Support field logistics, including travel, communication, equipment, and required documentation.

·       Provide regular progress updates on field activities.

3.2 Research and Data Collection

·       Support implementation of quantitative and qualitative research activities.

·       Support proper application of sampling and respondent selection procedures.

·       Coordinate and supervise structured surveys, KIIs, FGDs, and phone-based surveys.

·       Support CATI and other remote data collection approaches when required.

·       Conduct or supervise pilot testing of questionnaires and research tools.

·       Identify issues in questionnaires, skip patterns, wording, or field procedures and recommend improvements.

·       Ensure questionnaires are administered consistently across locations and respondents.

·       Support preparation and management of interview notes, observation records, transcripts, and qualitative documentation.

·       Ensure informed consent, confidentiality, and privacy requirements are followed throughout data collection.

 

3.3 Digital Data Collection Systems

The candidate should have practical experience with SurveyCTO and KoboToolbox and should be able to:

·        Use SurveyCTO Collect, KoboCollect, and web-based data collection forms.

·        Monitor field submissions and progress.

·        Review submitted records for completeness and quality.

·        Download and organize datasets.

·        Support enumerators with synchronization, submission, and basic technical issues.

·        Understand skip logic, validation rules, required questions, constraints, and basic calculations.

·        Support phone-based or CATI survey implementation where applicable.

Experience with ODK, CommCare, or similar platforms will be considered an advantage.

3.4 Data Management, Quality Assurance and Cleaning

·        Download, organize, maintain, and archive research datasets.

·        Conduct routine data quality checks during and after data collection.

·        Identify missing values, duplicate records, outliers, incorrect codes, and inconsistent responses.

·        Communicate data quality issues to field teams and follow up on required corrections.

·        Conduct or coordinate spot checks and back-checks where necessary.

·        Maintain proper file naming, dataset version control, respondent IDs, and project documentation.

·        Support merging and consolidation of datasets.

·        Ensure confidential and personally identifiable information is handled securely.

·        Clean datasets using Microsoft Excel or other available tools.

·        Prepare complete and verified datasets for analysis and reporting.

3.5 Data Analysis and Visualization

·        Conduct basic descriptive analysis of survey data.

·        Prepare frequencies, percentages, averages, cross-tabulations, and summary tables.

·        Compare findings across provinces, districts, demographic groups, or other relevant categories.

·        Support organization and basic coding of qualitative information from KIIs and FGDs.

·        Prepare charts, graphs, tables, and visual summaries.

·        Support development and updating of basic Power BI dashboards and management information products.

·        Assist researchers and analysts in preparing datasets and outputs for further analysis.

3.6 Reporting and Documentation

·        Prepare daily, weekly, and final field progress reports.

·        Prepare data collection completion reports and field monitoring summaries.

·        Document field challenges, corrective actions, and lessons learned.

·        Support preparation of assessment, research, monitoring, and evaluation reports.

·        Prepare tables, charts, and summary statistics for reports and presentations.

·        Support interpretation of quantitative findings and synthesis of qualitative findings.

·        Maintain complete documentation of field activities and research processes.

·        Contribute to client reports, presentations, and other project deliverables.

 

 

3.7 Consultant and Field Personnel Management

·        Coordinate consultants, enumerators, supervisors, facilitators, translators, and other short-term personnel.

·        Maintain updated contact lists, attendance records, and assignment trackers.

·        Coordinate staff availability, deployment, and deliverables.

·        Follow up on agreed timelines and outputs.

·        Support review of completed assignments and consultant deliverables.

·        Coordinate communication between consultants, field teams, and project management.

·        Support preparation of required administrative and operational documentation.

 

 

5. Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Public Administration, Monitoring and Evaluation, Research, or another relevant field.

A Master's degree will be considered an advantage.

Experience

The candidate should preferably have:

·        3–5 years of relevant experience in research, assessments, monitoring and evaluation, field coordination, or data collection.

·        Demonstrated experience supervising enumerators and field data collection teams.

·        Experience conducting or coordinating quantitative surveys.

·        Practical experience with KIIs and FGDs.

·        Experience conducting or coordinating phone-based surveys.

·        Experience using SurveyCTO and/or KoboToolbox.

·        Experience with data cleaning, data quality assurance, and data management.

·        Experience using Microsoft Excel for data management and basic analysis.

·        Experience preparing field, assessment, or research reports.

·        Experience coordinating consultants, researchers, supervisors, or enumerators.

·        Experience working on humanitarian, development, market research, or evaluation assignments is highly desirable.

6. Technical Skills

The successful candidate should demonstrate good working knowledge of:

·        Quantitative and qualitative research methods

·        Survey implementation and field coordination

·        KIIs, FGDs, and phone-based surveys

·        SurveyCTO and KoboToolbox

·        Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word

·        Data management and data cleaning

·        Data quality assurance

·        Basic statistical analysis

·        Power BI and data visualization

·        Research and field reporting

·        Enumerator and consultant management

 

Strong Microsoft Excel skills are required, including experience with Pivot Tables, filtering, data validation, charts, lookup functions, IF formulas, COUNTIF/COUNTIFS, SUMIF/SUMIFS, and basic data analysis.

Knowledge of SPSS, Stata, R, Python, ODK, CommCare, or other research and analytical tools will be considered an advantage.
