Short-Term Field Surveyor

AAMC seeks qualified individuals with educational backgrounds in Livestock, Agriculture, Animal Science, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Business Administration, Economics, Medical Sciences, Civil Engineering, Social Sciences, or related fields to work as Short-Term Field Surveyors and support the implementation of nationwide monitoring, assessment, and survey activities.

The successful candidates will support data collection, field verification, monitoring, and assessment activities at the province, district, village, community, and household levels across all 34 provinces of Afghanistan. Field Surveyors will play an important role in collecting accurate, reliable, and timely information using digital data collection tools and supporting evidence-based programming.

Geographical Coverage

Short-Term Field Surveyors will be assigned to conduct surveys and monitoring activities across all 34 provinces of Afghanistan.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct field surveys, assessments, monitoring visits, and household interviews according to approved survey plans, methodologies, and data collection protocols.

• Collect accurate quantitative and qualitative data from beneficiaries, households, communities, project sites, and relevant stakeholders using Kobo Toolbox, tablets, mobile applications, or paper-based tools, as required.

• Conduct household-level interviews and verification visits to assess beneficiary eligibility, project participation, assistance received, utilization, satisfaction, and outcomes.

• Support baseline studies, post-distribution monitoring (PDM), beneficiary profile surveys (BPS), outcome monitoring, needs assessments, and other field assessment activities.

• Verify project activities, outputs, and beneficiary information through direct observation, interviews, document review, and photographic evidence where required.

• Conduct interviews and consultations with beneficiaries, community elders, women, youth, farmers, livestock owners, local authorities, implementing partners, and other relevant stakeholders.

• Monitor agricultural, livestock, livelihood, cash assistance, infrastructure, health, nutrition, and other humanitarian or development interventions as assigned.

• Collect information on agricultural production, livestock management, animal health, livelihood activities, market access, business activities, household conditions, and community needs based on assigned survey requirements.

• Conduct technical observations on livestock, agriculture, civil works, business activities, health services, and other sector-specific interventions, where applicable.

• Assess the quality, relevance, accessibility, and utilization of assistance and services provided to targeted communities and households.

• Monitor compliance with agreed project procedures, including beneficiary selection, distribution processes, accountability mechanisms, inclusion considerations, and community engagement.

• Identify and report implementation challenges, beneficiary concerns, protection issues, accessibility barriers, inclusion gaps, potential misuse of assistance, and other risks observed during field activities.

• Maintain informed consent, confidentiality, and ethical standards during all interviews and data collection activities.

• Take clear, date-stamped photographs and collect supporting evidence when required by the survey methodology.

• Ensure all collected data is complete, accurate, consistent, and submitted within the required timeframe.

• Conduct daily data quality checks and communicate any data collection challenges or technical issues to the supervisor.

• Participate in survey training sessions, technical briefings, and field practice exercises before deployment.

• Follow approved sampling methodologies, questionnaires, interview protocols, and quality assurance procedures during data collection.

• Coordinate professionally with field supervisors, MEAL teams, implementing partners, community representatives, and local authorities while maintaining independence and neutrality.

• Prepare brief field notes, observations, and community feedback as needed.

• Support third-party monitoring and verification activities by ensuring accurate and independent collection of field information.

• Perform other survey, monitoring, and assessment-related tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in one of the following fields:

  • Livestock

  • Agriculture

  • Business Administration

  • Economics

  • Medical Sciences

  • Civil Engineering

  • Related fields

• Previous experience in field surveys, monitoring, assessments, data collection, or humanitarian/development projects is preferred.

• Experience using Kobo Toolbox, ODK, tablets, smartphones, or digital data collection platforms is an advantage.

• Good communication skills and ability to conduct interviews with diverse community members.

• Ability to travel to rural and remote locations within assigned areas.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data collection.

• Ability to work independently while following survey protocols and instructions.

• Knowledge of local languages and communities is highly desirable.
