About Youth's Assembly for Afghanistan Rehabilitation (YAAR)

Youth's Assembly for Afghanistan Rehabilitation (YAAR) is a national, non governmental and non profit organization established in 1994. For more than three decades, YAAR has been providing humanitarian and development assistance to vulnerable communities across Afghanistan.

YAAR has implemented more than 115 multisectoral projects in more than 17 provinces in partnership with UN agencies, international organizations, INGOs, embassies and local institutions.

YAAR works across different sectors including Health, Education, WASH, Food Security, Agriculture and Livelihoods, Emergency Response, Women's Economic Empowerment, Protection and other humanitarian and development interventions.

Job Description

Job Summary

YAAR is seeking a creative and experienced Multimedia & Communications Officer with strong skills in videography, photography, video editing, storytelling and social media content creation.

The selected candidate will be responsible for documenting YAAR's projects and activities through high quality photographs, videos, interviews, beneficiary success stories, short documentaries and social media content.

The position requires someone who understands how to turn project activities and beneficiary experiences into professional and engaging human interest stories that demonstrate the impact of YAAR's work.

The successful candidate should not only know how to operate a camera, but should also understand how to identify a good story, conduct an interview, plan video shots, record quality footage, edit the material and produce a complete final video suitable for donors, reports, websites and social media platforms.

YAAR will provide the necessary organizational equipment for the position.

Key Responsibilities

·  Photograph and film YAAR project activities in Kabul and other provinces.

·  Identify meaningful beneficiary success stories in coordination with project teams.

·  Interview beneficiaries, project staff, community members and other relevant stakeholders.

·  Develop professional beneficiary success story videos and human interest stories.

·  Plan video shoots including locations, interviews, shots, lighting and audio.

·  Record high quality video, photographs and audio.

·  Edit raw footage into professional final videos.

·  Produce short videos and reels suitable for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, X and other digital platforms.

·  Produce longer project documentaries and success story videos when required.

·  Add subtitles, captions, titles, logos, graphics, transitions and other visual elements.

·  Prepare English, Dari and Pashto subtitles where required.

·  Develop before and after documentation of project interventions.

·  Produce photographs and videos for donor reports, project reports, proposals and organizational profiles.

·  Cover project events, trainings, distributions, inaugurations, handovers, field visits and major project milestones.

·  Develop creative ideas for promoting YAAR projects and achievements through social media.

·  Prepare short captions and descriptions for social media posts.

·  Ensure all communication materials follow YAAR and donor visibility requirements.

·  Maintain an organized digital archive of photographs, videos and project communication materials.

·  Properly manage and safeguard cameras, microphones, lighting, computers and other equipment provided by YAAR.

·  Carry out other communications and multimedia related duties assigned by management.

Beneficiary Storytelling

A major part of this position will be developing project success stories. The candidate must be able to:

·  Identify beneficiaries whose stories demonstrate meaningful project impact.

·  Understand the beneficiary's situation before receiving project support.

·  Conduct respectful and natural interviews.

·  Capture appropriate supporting footage and photographs.

·  Clearly explain what assistance was provided through the project.

·  Show how the project changed or improved the beneficiary's situation.

·  Create an engaging beginning, middle and conclusion for each story.

·  Produce final stories suitable for sharing with donors, partners and the public.

Job Requirements

  Education:

·  Bachelor's degree or diploma in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media, Film Production, Multimedia, Photography, Graphic Design or a related field is preferred.

·  Candidates with strong professional experience and an excellent portfolio may also be considered without a directly related degree.

Work Experience:

·  At least 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in videography, photography, video editing, media production or content creation.

·  Demonstrated experience in shooting and editing professional videos.

·  Previous experience producing beneficiary success stories, human interest stories or project documentaries is highly desirable.

·  Previous experience with NGOs, UN agencies, humanitarian organizations, development organizations or similar institutions is an advantage.

·  Experience producing content specifically for social media platforms is required.

·  Ability and willingness to travel to YAAR project locations when required.

Technical Skills

The candidate should have good practical knowledge of:

·  Professional videography

·  Photography

·  Video editing

·  Storyboarding and video planning

·  Interview techniques

·  Audio recording

·  Lighting

·  Camera composition and framing

·  Photo editing

·  Social media content production

·  Digital file organization and archiving

Preferred software experience:

Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, CapCut or other professional video and photo editing software.

It is not necessary for the applicant to know every software listed above. Strong practical ability to produce professional quality videos is more important.

·  Be able to manage several documentation assignments simultaneously.

Safeguarding and Ethical Storytelling

The selected candidate must respect the dignity, privacy and confidentiality of beneficiaries. The candidate must:

·  Obtain appropriate consent before photographing, filming or interviewing beneficiaries.

·  Follow YAAR safeguarding and PSEA requirements.

·  Take particular care when documenting children and vulnerable individuals.

·  Never publish sensitive beneficiary information without authorization.

·  Avoid photographs or stories that may place beneficiaries at protection, security or reputational risk.

·  Represent beneficiaries respectfully and accurately.

Language Requirements

·  Fluency in Dari and Pashto is required.

·  Good English communication skills are highly desirable.

·  Ability to prepare English subtitles and captions will be considered an advantage.
