Established in 1991 by a group of educated Afghan women in exile, the Afghan Women's Educational Center (AWEC) is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, nonpolitical, and nongovernmental organization dedicated to advocating for and raising awareness about the rights of women and children in Islam.

Since 2002, AWEC has collaborated with women and communities to enhance access to education, health, and vocational services in Afghanistan. Our initiatives extend to livelihood improvement, protection, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), humanitarian aid, grant management, capacity building, social rehabilitation, cohesion, and justice. AWEC has successfully implemented projects in Logar, Faryab, Kapisa, Khost, Panjshir, Wardak, Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Parwan, Paktia, Paktika, Laghman, Nuristan, and Bamyan provinces, maintaining an active presence in Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Parwan, Paktia, Paktika, Laghman, Nuristan, and Bamyan.

The Livelihood Trainer (Poultry) will be responsible for delivering practical and theory-based poultry management training to selected Project beneficiaries. The position aims to strengthen household resilience by equipping participants with technical skills to establish and manage small-scale poultry units for improved food security and income generation.

The Trainer will support beneficiary selection assessments, provide hands-on coaching, ensure proper utilization of poultry packages, market linkage initiatives and conduct regular follow-up visits to enhance sustainability of the intervention. The role contributes directly to strengthening individual and household resilience in targeted communities for four months.

Responsibilities:

Support the identification and technical assessment of eligible beneficiaries for the poultry intervention based on interest, motivation, and basic facility availability.

Conduct baseline assessments to understand participants’ existing knowledge, skills, and resources related to poultry rearing.

Develop and deliver practical and theoretical poultry management training sessions aligned with project objectives.

Provide instruction on poultry housing, feeding, vaccination, hygiene, disease prevention, and small-scale poultry business management.

Guide beneficiaries on constructing simple poultry shelters using locally available materials when needed.

Ensure beneficiaries understand proper handling, feeding, and care of distributed poultry.

Support the distribution process of poultry packages and verify that minimum facility requirements are met prior to distribution.

Conduct regular field visits to monitor poultry unit setup, bird health, mortality rates, egg production, and overall management practices.

Provide on-site coaching and troubleshooting support to address technical challenges.

Advise beneficiaries on basic record keeping, cost calculation, and income tracking related to poultry production.

Facilitate linkage between beneficiaries and local input suppliers (feed, vaccines) and potential local markets where feasible.

Coordinate closely with Community Mobilizers to ensure attendance, follow-up, and problem-solving at community level.

Contribute to strengthening Self-Help Groups by providing technical advice during group meetings where relevant.

Promote environmentally responsible and hygienic poultry practices in line with community health considerations.

Support MEAL team in data collection, progress monitoring, and documentation of outcomes and success stories.

Prepare and submit regular technical and progress reports to the Project Manager.

Ensure all activities are implemented in line with organizational policies, safeguarding standards, and donor requirements.

Perform any other duties assigned by the line manager.

Education and Experience:

A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Veterinary Science, or related field preferred (relevant technical certification with strong experience may be considered).

A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in poultry production, livestock training, or livelihood programming. Proven experience in delivering practical, field-based technical training.

Skills:

Strong knowledge of small-scale poultry management, disease prevention, feeding systems, and housing design.

Experience conducting field assessments and follow-up monitoring visits.

Ability to provide hands-on coaching and technical problem-solving support.

Strong communication and facilitation skills.

Ability to work effectively with vulnerable households in rural settings.

Experience working with vulnerable women and girls and applying gender-responsive approaches.

Fluency in Dari and Pashto required; English is an asset.

Willingness to travel regularly within Paghman District.
