Job Description

The Community Health Trainer will provide technical support for the implementation of community health activities under the ZALA Project in Paghman District. The trainer will be responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering integrated training on Hygiene Awareness, Health Education, and First Aid for selected female beneficiaries. She will ensure that all training sessions are delivered using participatory and practical approaches, while maintaining high technical standards and compliance with AWEC policies and donor requirements.

The trainer will work closely with the Project Manager, Community Mobilizers, and MEAL team to ensure effective coordination, quality implementation, proper documentation, and timely reporting of all assigned activities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Training Preparation
  • Review and familiarize herself with AWEC's approved training manuals, materials, and implementation guidelines.
  • Adapt training materials, presentations, and exercises to the local context and beneficiaries' needs where necessary.
  • Prepare training plans, agendas, and required learning materials before each training session.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager and Community Mobilizers regarding training schedules, venues, participant lists, and logistical requirements.

2. Hygiene Awareness Training

  • Deliver one-day Hygiene Awareness training for female beneficiaries.
  • Facilitate sessions on:
    • Personal hygiene.
    • Handwashing practices.
    • Household sanitation.
    • Safe water handling and storage.
    • Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM).
    • Prevention of hygiene-related diseases.
  • Demonstrate the proper use and maintenance of hygiene kit items.
  • Encourage active participation through discussions, demonstrations, and practical exercises.

3. Health Education Training

  • Deliver one-day Health Education training for project beneficiaries.
  • Facilitate sessions covering:
    • Personal and family health.
    • Maternal and child health.
    • Nutrition and healthy dietary practices.
    • Basic awareness on malnutrition, including introduction to MUAC screening.
    • Prevention of common communicable diseases.
    • Health-seeking behaviors.
    • Community health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Ensure all training content is culturally appropriate and easy to understand.

4. First Aid Training

  • Deliver a three-day First Aid training using AWEC's approved First Aid Manual.
  • Conduct theoretical and practical sessions on:
    • Principles of first aid.
    • Emergency response.
    • Casualty assessment.
    • Bleeding and wound management.
    • Burns and fractures.
    • Choking and shock management.
    • Safe transportation of injured persons.
    • Basic emergency response procedures.
  • Conduct practical demonstrations and supervise hands-on exercises.
  • Administer pre- and post-training assessments.
  • Orient participants on the proper use of first aid kits and manuals.

5. Coordination and Community Engagement

  • Coordinate closely with Community Mobilizers to ensure beneficiary participation and attendance.
  • Support beneficiary registration and verification where required.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and briefing sessions.
  • Maintain effective communication with project staff throughout the assignment.
  • Ensure respectful, culturally appropriate, and inclusive engagement with all beneficiaries.

6. Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain attendance sheets and participant registration records.
  • Conduct pre- and post-tests and compile assessment results.
  • Document training activities through reports, photographs (where appropriate), and supporting records.
  • Prepare and submit activity reports, including achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations.
  • Submit all required documentation and deliverables to the Project Manager upon completion of the assignment.

7. Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with AWEC policies, procedures, and donor requirements.
  • Adhere to AWEC's Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain confidentiality of beneficiary information.
  • Comply with AWEC policies on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), Child Safeguarding, Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) and Data Protection.
  • Perform any other related tasks assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, Community Health, or another relevant health-related field. A recognized First Aid Training certification is highly desirable.

At least 3 years of professional experience in community health, health education, hygiene promotion, or first aid training. 

Demonstrated experience delivering community-based health training using participatory methodologies with NGOs, humanitarian, or development projects is preferred.

Skills:

Strong facilitation, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively with women and vulnerable communities.

Excellent report writing and documentation skills.

Ability to travel within project target areas.

Fluency in Dari and Pashto; working knowledge of English is preferred.
