Job Description

Job Summary

Islamic Relief Worldwide’ s Child Protection Division focuses on protecting children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence by delivering prevention and response services, supporting case management, and coordinating with families, communities, and partners to ensure child safety and well-being in high-returnee areas of Nangarhar Province. The Child Protection unit leads the protection section, including the management of Child Care Centers, case management, and coordination with government and community stakeholders.

Child Protection Officer under supervision of Child Protection Project Coordinator is required to support the delivery of quality Child Protection activities for children, caregivers, and adolescents in a timely and efficient manner for Islamic Relief World wide’s protection program. Providing mentoring support to the project staff in place and plan for their improvement according to the findings of monitoring. The position is responsible for implementing and overseeing programs that safeguard children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence. They investigate safety risks, provide case management, deliver psychosocial support, and coordinate with local communities and authorities to ensure vulnerable children receive appropriate care. It ensures the safety, well-being, and rights of children by preventing and responding to violence, abuse, exploitation, and neglect. They investigate cases, provide casework support, and make sure that all staff strictly adhere to strict child Protection policies.

Key Responsibilities

·       Provide technical guidance, on the job coaching and mentoring to the Child protection team on the principles of child protection, psychosocial support and learning and development principles for children and adults.

·       Implement child protection policies in all CCC activities.

·       Ensure that all protection services are implemented meet protection standards

·       Conduct awareness sessions on child protection, PSEA, and CCC

·       Carry out regular monitoring visits to CCC

·       Identify and assess protection risks affecting children in CCC

·       Ensure CCC is safe, inclusive, and child-friendly

·       Receive, document, and report Child Protection concerns or incidents

·       Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive protection information

·       Refer protection cases to relevant service providers (health, legal, psychosocial)

·       Monitor clients’ progress consistently, ensuring services are delivered according to established criteria and standards.

·       Provide technical supervision and support of field staff through regular contact, field visits or meetings.

·       Initiate need assessment to find the exact needs of the community for child protection.

·       Facilitate the distribution of material and toolkits during the project period.

·       Maintain records of activities, incidents, and all sessions

·       Prepare weekly and monthly Child Protection reports

·       Provide support to the community stakeholders and supervise the meeting with community elders, influential figures and other related groups in target community.

·       Support complaint and feedback mechanisms (accountability systems)

Coordinate with education, protection, and M&E teams to ensure integrated support

PERSON SPECIFICATION

It is essential that the post holder shows a good understanding and sympathy with Islamic values and principles as well as commitment to Islamic Relief Worldwide vision, mission and Child protection case management .

Essential:

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications (Bullet Points)

·       Bachelor’s degree in Law /Sharia, Psychology, Political Science, Journalism, and a valid degree from the Ministry of Higher Education.

·       An understanding of the basic principles of humanitarian work, human rights, child protection, and the needs of most vulnerable communities in Afghanistan.

·       Excellent knowledge of child protection and CCC.

·        Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility.

·       Ability to clearly express one’s thoughts, to analyze and present information clearly and concisely.

·       Flexible working hours availability.

·        Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·       At least 4-5 years of work experience in child protection and case management preferably with IDPs/returnees.

·       Demonstrated strong experience working with vulnerable children, clients, including survivors at risk and victims of child abuse. 

·       Good knowledge of GBV and Child Protection case management.

·       Strong knowledge of protection interviewing techniques and communicating with the affected population.

·       Familiarity with IASC Guidelines on Protection Support in Emergency Settings.

·        At least 4-5 years of experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings, specifically in Child Protection or GBV sectors.

·       Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discriminatin, and safety of client at all the times.

·       Good knowledge of English.

·       Professionally understand (read and write) Dari and Pashto.

Skilled in survivor-centered approaches, protection interviews, and referral systems. Strong understanding of human rights, child protection, and IASC guidelines, with proven ability to communicate effectively and work in sensitive environments. Fluent in Dari and Pashto, with good English proficiency.
