Job Description

1. Hygiene Promotion and Community Awareness

  • Conduct hygiene promotion sessions in targeted communities.
  • Deliver awareness sessions on key hygiene and sanitation practices.
  • Educate communities on disease prevention, particularly waterborne and communicable diseases.
  • Promote safe drinking water handling, storage, and treatment practices.
  • Raise awareness on handwashing at critical times.
  • Promote household cleanliness and environmental sanitation.
  • Support awareness activities related to flood-related health risks.

2. Beneficiary Identification and Community Mobilization

  • Support household assessments and community mobilization activities.
  • Assist the project team in identifying vulnerable households.
  • Participate in community meetings and consultations.
  • Support Beneficiary Selection Committees (BSCs) during beneficiary verification.
  • Ensure participation of women, persons with disabilities, elderly persons, and other vulnerable groups.

3. Hygiene Kit Distribution

  • Support planning and implementation of hygiene kit distributions.
  • Verify beneficiary attendance and registration during distributions.
  • Explain hygiene kit contents and proper use of items.
  • Ensure beneficiaries understand key hygiene practices linked to kit utilization.
  • Support crowd management and orderly distribution processes.
  • Maintain distribution records and attendance sheets.

4. Monitoring and Follow-Up

  • Conduct household follow-up visits after hygiene kit distribution.
  • Monitor utilization of distributed hygiene items.
  • Assess beneficiary understanding of hygiene messages.
  • Identify gaps in knowledge and provide refresher awareness sessions.
  • Participate in Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM) activities.
  • Document lessons learned and community feedback.

5. Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP)

  • Inform beneficiaries about project objectives, entitlements, and selection criteria.
  • Promote awareness of Complaint and Feedback Mechanisms (CFM).
  • Encourage community members to provide feedback.
  • Record and report community concerns to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure transparency and accountability during project implementation.

6. Safeguarding and PSEA

  • Promote Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) principles.
  • Ensure all interactions with beneficiaries are conducted respectfully and professionally.
  • Support awareness raising on safeguarding and protection issues.
  • Report safeguarding concerns according to organizational procedures.
  • Ensure confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Promote inclusion and dignity of vulnerable groups.

7. Coordination and Reporting

  • Coordinate closely with the Project Manager and Shelter Engineers.
  • Participate in weekly project meetings.
  • Submit activity reports and attendance records.
  • Maintain records of hygiene promotion sessions and community meetings.
  • Support preparation of project reports and success stories.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Minimum completion of Grade 12.
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in public health, Environmental Health, Social Sciences, Education, Community Development, or a related field is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in hygiene promotion, WASH, public health, community mobilization, or humanitarian projects.
  • Experience with NGOs, emergency response, and community awareness activities is preferred.

Technical & Computer Skills

  • Knowledge of hygiene promotion, WASH, community mobilization, data collection, and reporting.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills; familiarity with Kobo Collect or similar mobile data collection tools is an asset.

Languages

  • Fluency in Dari and/or Uzbeki is required.
  • Knowledge of Pashto and basic English are assets.

Local Recruitment Requirement

Priority will be given to candidates from Faryab Province, with preference for those originating from Kohistan and Gurziwan districts.

The selected Hygiene Promoter/Trainer Couple (Male and Female – Shariah Mahram) must have a strong understanding of the local context, customs, and community structures in the target districts. Candidates should be familiar with local communities and leaders and be able to communicate fluently in the local language(s). Female candidates from the target districts are strongly encouraged to apply to support effective engagement with women and girls.
