Job Description

Purpose of the Position

The Deputy Director provides leadership and management support to ensure the efficient operation of AOWA. The incumbent assists in strategic planning, program oversight, partnership development, resource mobilization, organizational development, compliance, and staff management while acting on behalf of the Director when delegated.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities

A.     Strategic Leadership and Organizational Development

·        Support the Director in developing and implementing the organization's strategic plans and priorities.

·        Contribute to organizational growth, sustainability, and institutional strengthening initiatives.

·        Monitor progress against strategic objectives and recommend corrective actions where necessary.

·        Promote innovation, continuous improvement, and organizational learning.

 

B.      Program Oversight and Quality Assurance

  • Oversee implementation of projects and programs to ensure quality, effectiveness, and compliance with donor requirements.
  • Monitor program performance indicators and support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of narrative and technical reports.
  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration among departments to achieve program objectives.

C.      Partnership and External Representation

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with government institutions, donors, NGOs, UN agencies, community stakeholders, and private sector partners.
  • Represent AOWA in meetings, forums, and coordination platforms as delegated.
  • Support advocacy, networking, and partnership-building initiatives.

E. Resource Mobilization and Business Development

  • Identify funding opportunities and support proposal development processes.
  • Contribute to donor engagement and fundraising strategies.
  • Assist in developing partnerships that enhance organizational sustainability and impact.

F. Acting Director Responsibilities

  • Serve as Acting Director during the Director's absence when delegated.
  • Make operational decisions within delegated authority.
  • Ensure continuity of leadership and organizational functions.

Qualifications and Experience

Experience

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in program management, organizational leadership, or development/humanitarian sectors.
  • At least 3–5 years in a senior management or leadership position.
  • Demonstrated experience in partnership management, donor engagement, and organizational development.
  • Experience working with NGOs, civil society organizations, government institutions, or international organizations is desirable.
  •  Fluency in English (spoken and written) is mandatory.
