About Action Against Hunger

Action Against Hunger (ACF) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that was created in France in1979. ACF has been active in Afghanistan in the medical, nutrition, food security, and water and sanitation fields since 1995.ACF improved access to health and nutrition services for the most vulnerable people, who live in remote areas without a localhealth system. In particular, the country team supported pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under five, who are atgreater risk of malnutrition. Nutrition programs rely on an integrated approach, addressing both primary and underlying causes, inorder to have a lasting impact on nutritional status. The country team worked at community level, in villages and at provincial level,strengthening the public health system. It also worked at national level to ensure reliable information about the nutritional situation reached the wider humanitarian community. Covid-19 prevention was integrated into all interventions and additional responseactivities were implemented, such as the disinfection of health facilities and public places, cash assistance, psychosocial support andthe distribution of hygiene kits to affected populations.

Job Description

Objectives 1 : Overall Health and Nutrition response support with regards to Health and Nutrition program activities:

  • Design and facilitate technical training modules, workshops, and on-the-job coaching for clinical and community health staff on topics like family planning, maternal health, and infection prevention
  • Conduct supportive supervision visits to health facilities to assess competency gaps, provide hands-on mentorship, and ensure quality standards in SRH service delivery are met.
  • Determine technical areas for training through a capacity building needs assessment for Health and Nutrition team this is especially for newly recruited staff in collaboration with, CB Manager and the Deputy Health, Nutrition Head of department and PMs.
  • Deliver training with evaluation and follow-up systems according to planning together with Capacity building Manager and MEAL Team.
  • Conduct refresher trainings on technical aspects and support conduction of other ad hoc training sessions, coaching and on-the–job support based on identified needs.
  • Ensures frequent joint visits to the field to monitor the health and nutrition program activities (possibly with Health and Nutrition and Health HoD/Deputy head of department).
  • Support development of brief supervision reports/joint visit reports with key recommendations. Provide feedback and advises to Health and Nutrition PM on program integration in with Health and Nutrition CB Manager, HoD/DHoD.
  • Support integration of SRH with Nutrition, MHPSS and other sectors.
  • Propose and initiate improvements according to the Action Against Hunger Health and Nutrition program needs
  • Facilitating program adjustment in collaboration with the Health and Nutrition Capacity Building Manger, Deputy Health and Nutrition and Health and Nutrition PMs according to any change in the context.

Objectives 2: Program,  context analysis

  • Make sure the Health and Nutrition program and activities are in line with project definition and timeframe. Organize regular meeting with key team members to analyze program activities and results.
  • Keep an update on the evolution of the Health and Nutrition situation in all the areas targeted by the response, and on the evolution of the responses in the areas.

Objectives 3: Coordination and  representation

  • Participates to any Health and Nutrition cluster at the Kabul, regions and province level (as assigned by the Health and Nutrition HoD) when required
  • Attending technical working group meetings at the health and nutrition clusters with health and nutrition – HoD/DHoD.

Objective 4: Reporting

  • Ensures Health and Nutrition program performance indicators are monitored, reported and reach performance standard according to the international/national thresholds. In case results do not meet thresholds, propose additional solutions towards the improvement of the results and on process to learn what may be affecting performance.
  • Contribute to the Preparation of monthly activity reports (compilation of activity reports –APR Narrative and Quantitative) with a qualitative look at the programs (in collaboration with Capacity Building Manager).
  • Reviewing quality of Health and Nutrition database and providing feedback to the field team. Analyzing the Health and nutrition program data, and communicating the outcome with the field team.

Job Requirements

 Medical Doctor Graduate (GP), or Graduated from recognized Midwifery institute

  • At least 2 year of experience in the field of health and nutrition specially SRH program
  • Developing training material and good skills in facilitating training
  • Conduct the on the job capacity-building support and supportive supervision for the health and nutrition programs. 
  • Experience in the management of Acute Malnutrition (TFU, OPD MAM, OPD SAM, IYCF, and CMAM) and SRH is a plus
  • Experience in implementation of the Afghanistan Basic Package of Health Services
  • Organization skills are necessary.
  • Fluent in English, reading, written and spoken
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, Power Point is a plus
  • Experience in humanitarian sector is a plus
  • Speaking the local languages 

A good command of English and speaking the local language is required
