Job Description

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Programme Associate/Programme Associate (Migration Health) and the direct supervision of the Team leader/Medical Doctor in the health facility, the Health Screening Assistant will support health promotion activities, including nutrition screening, risk communication, data entry, and community engagement. He/she is expected to carry out his/her duties in accordance with the strictest ethical standards and with due respect for gender and socio-cultural sensitivities. Deployment areas may include IDP settlements in rural or remote areas within the project scope.

Job Requirements

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Support primary public health screening of migrants, returnees, and travellers at Points of Entry and mobility points, including observation for symptoms and Event‑Based Surveillance (EBS) signals.
  • Assist screening activities during high‑risk or epidemic situations in line with MoPH/WHO guidance.
  • Identify and flag suspected priority diseases or public health alerts and complete standard reporting forms for escalation to clinical or surveillance teams.
  • Apply infection prevention and control (IPC) measures and personal protection protocols during screening, outreach, and community activities.
  • Deliver individual and group health education sessions on communicable diseases, immunization, maternal and child health, nutrition, and WASH.
  • Actively support health, nutrition, and immunization activities in line with MoPH/WHO strategies, including identification and referral of eligible individuals.
  • Assist clinical staff during mobile and static outreach activities, including basic screening support and review of medical or screening information, as required.
  • Accurately enter screening, health, and vaccination data into Kobo or other approved systems and support routine data quality checks.
  • Support data quality assurance, including verification of registers, basic data cleaning, and maintenance of records for fixed and mobile activities.
  • Manage patient flow activities, including queue management, crowd control, patient orientation, and guiding beneficiaries through registration, screening, service points, and referral pathways to ensure orderly and efficient service delivery.
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the line supervisor.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Midwifery, Laboratory, Pharmacy, or related field from an accredited academic institution with at least one year of relevant working experience.

            Or

  • High School diploma with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience.

Experience:

  • At least one year of experience in a relevant field after graduation.
  • Previous experience in an international organization is an advantage.
  • Experience working in a medical emergency / Trauma department will be considered an advantage.
  • Previous experience in providing Psychosocial First Aid will be advantageous. 
  • Previous experience conducting basic screening /triage, IPC adherence, data collection, data entry, and health education delivery.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data entry, basic formulas, data management, and analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, rapidly changing environments.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills. Ability to communicate health information clearly and respectfully.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with partners and beneficiaries.
  • Willingness to work long hours and weekends when necessary.

Languages:

  • For all Applicants, fluency in Dari and Pashto is required (oral and written).
  • Working knowledge of English is required.
  • Fluency in all national language(s) are highly advantages.
