Job Description

Nutrition and Education International (NEI) introduced soybean cultivation and home consumption in Afghanistan in 2003 as a practical and sustainable source of protein to address protein-energy malnutrition (PEM). PEM remains a significant contributing factor to some of the highest mortality rates globally among children under five, as well as among women and infants during childbirth. To date, NEI has trained over 135,000 Afghan farmers in soybean cultivation across more than 4,900 rural villages in 31 provinces nationwide.

NEI is continuing its efforts to develop a sustainable soybean production sector and is seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and committed Junior Agronomist to support its flagship soybean program. The selected candidate will contribute to expanding and strengthening soybean production in Afghanistan, increasing demand for soybeans produced by Afghan farmers, and promoting value-added soy-based products across the country.

NEI encourages applications from individuals who demonstrate strong commitment, professionalism, and a genuine dedication to serving vulnerable populations, including those affected by poverty, hunger, and malnutrition, with a focus on sustainable and long-term solutions.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the effective implementation of NEI’s flagship soybean program, including production sector development and demand creation for farmers’ soybeans, as a strategic response to widespread PEM.
  • Promote soybean production in rural areas where irrigation water is available.
  • Mobilize and facilitate the participation of Afghan farmers in soybean cultivation training programs and adoption initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance to farmers on soybean cultivation and good agricultural practices.
  • Conduct field visits, training sessions, and demonstration activities.
  • Organize farmer groups and coordinate soybean production activities with key stakeholders, including UN agencies, government institutions, the private sector, and international and national NGOs.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Provide support to additional project activities as required.
