Médecins du Monde - France (MdM-F) is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to provide medical care for the most vulnerable populations, the world over, including Afghanistan. It seeks to stimulate voluntary commitment from doctors, other health care providers, and from those whose expertise in other fields is needed for its activities, to enlist all competent support required for the achievement of its projects, and to seek at all times to encourage close working relationships with populations in its care.
Job Description
Main objective and responsibilities of the position
- Plan, prepare, and serve snacks/meals for MdM expats in guest house, respecting hygiene and food safety standards and national preferences, in addition to making sure of the good quality of food supplies used for cooking.
- Responsible for purchasing the food necessary for performing the job.
- Preserve hygiene conditions inside the kitchen, dining area and kitchen utensils.
- Buying food supplies on daily and weekly basis:
- Buy the produce required for meals preparation, within the fixed budget
- Ensure the regular supply of fresh food at the best price
- Assist in defining and assessing groceries and markets where to buy food supply
- Manage the food box
- Keep a log recording of all expenditure and regularly settle advances relating to the purchase of food for expats
- Plan, display and circulate a weakly Menu emphasizing the diversity of meals (vegetarian, poultry, fish, meat etc.)
- Carry out the preparation of meals for guest house residents
- Prepare meals according to the fixed number of people and definite planning, checking that the food is healthy and the menus varied
- Prepare, arrange, serve meals and refreshment for internal/in house small trainings/workshops
- Always follow all hygiene standards and security rules
- Ensure meals to be served on time
- If applicable, set table before every meal and clean it up after each meal
- Ensure cleanliness of all facilities, utensils, and equipment:
- Wash plates, dishes, cutlery.
- Keep the kitchen, storage area, cooking utensils and refrigerator clean. Disinfect the refrigerator weekly.
- Ensure cleanliness of kitchens as per hygiene standards
- Report all important information (lost, robbery, damages, deterioration, incident, etc.) to the line supervisor
- Provide support to cleaners, if required
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements and Competencies
- Education: at least Primary education.
- Experience: entry level with minimum 2-year work experience in similar position, preferably with I/NGO’s, UN, reputable companies or more than 6-year experience in house cooking.
- Language: spoken and written Dari / Pasto. Spoken and written English will be a strong advantage.
- Competencies: good communication skills, ability to work under pressure, ability to keep confidentiality, basic mathematical skills such as counting.
