Job Descriptions:

The Senior Information and Communication Officer assumes the pivotal role of effectively overseeing the dissemination of information, filing, documentation, translation, and responsive handling of diverse external inquiries. Furthermore, the Senior Information and Communication Officer undertakes the responsibility of executing minor-scale translations of materials and content across English, Pashto, and Dari languages. Additionally, this role involves offering essential assistance to the overarching activities of the Communication team including the branding and marking reviews and other activities as deemed necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Dissemination of information, filing, documentation, translation, and responsive handling of diverse external inquiries in addition to executing minor-scale translations of materials and content across English, Pashto, and Dari languages. The responsibility of this role also involves offering support to the overarching activities of the Communication team, including the branding and marking reviews and other activities as deemed necessary.

 

Communication (Technical) Responsibilities:

  • Translate from English to Pashto/Dari and vice versa a variety of project documents, including technical reports, communications, and other materials, ensuring accuracy and maintaining the intended meaning.
  • Prepare, translate, manage, disseminate, and maintain official letters, requests, and documents for both incoming and outgoing communications.
  • Collect, coordinate, and respond to external inquiries in collaboration with project teams and under the direction of AFIAT's leadership.
  • Implement and adhere to MSH and USAID branding and marking guidelines in all AFIAT project content, ensuring that logos, typefaces, colours, and other visual elements are consistent.
  • Assist with the layout and formatting of publications, taking MSH and USAID branding guidelines into account.
  • Ensure the proper filing and archiving of project-related documents, correspondence, and information shared with and received from external entities.
  • Collaborate with project teams to collect pertinent data and information to respond to external request for information and aid in the creation of communication materials.
  • Assist with the periodic reporting of the project to donors and stakeholders, including but not limited to weekly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Maintain a thorough database for tracking project documents/information and letters shared in response to to external inquiries.
  • Remain up to date on the latest industry trends and best practices in communications, incorporating innovative approaches as appropriate.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as may be needed or assigned.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, business administration or related field.

 

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 6+ years of relevant experience for a bachelor's degree or 4+ years of relevant experience for a master's degree in similar positions tasked for information management, communication content development, translation and documents management with international organizations or organizations with similar missions.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Experience with public health communications, information management and relevant technical areas required.
  • Fluency in English, Dari, and Pashto languages is required.
  • Understanding of USAID communications content, branding and marking requirements including understanding of health sector trends, audiences, and communication requirements.
  • Understanding of boundaries of work under the licenses provided by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control related to Afghanistan (https://ofac.treasury.gov).  
  • Excellent writing and translation skills.
  • Understanding of knowledge management principles, with the ability to manage information sharing and filing.
  • Experience in multimedia content creation, including photography and video production, is highly desirable. Familiarity with USAID branding and marking guidelines.
