Job Description

Agriculture Trainer is responsible to provide technical support inputs and agriculture extension services to farmers and farmers groups and cooperative for the production for handling of high value agriculture and agronomy commodities.  

Responsibilities of the Job:

  • Conduct sustainable land management study and develop action plan on agro-based interventions and activities accordingly.
  • Provide technical support inputs and agriculture extension services to farmers and cooperatives for the production handling of high value agricultural and commodities.
  • Train farmers in new agriculture technology and agronomy techniques and methods to enhance productivity in the area.
  • Introduce improved and appropriate irrigated crop production technologies. These may include the following:
  1. Watercourse improvement
  2. Land leveling
  3. Furrow irrigation
  4. Use of better quality seed/planning materials.
  5. Land preparations
  6. improved field irrigation techniques
  7. Appropriate use of chemical and organic (manure) fertilizers.
  8. Integrated pest management
  9. Water saving techniques/technologies and develop irrigation scheduling
  10. Calculate crop water requirement and irrigation requirement within.
  11. Introduce improved water distribution and allocation methods.
  • Support farmers through field visits and trainings
  • Training of the beneficiaries.
  • Lead the development of agricultural technical standards training manuals and other implementation tools for the development of the agriculture.
  • Production methodologies and community based natural resources management.
  • Establishment of demonstration farm and conduct participatory trials and research; and demonstrate comparative results of improved agro-based production methodologies.
  • Conduct value chain and market assessment identify potential farming groups.
  • Design develop training manuals presentations and materials required for the trainings.
  • Ensure close communication and coordination with project team district authorities and community elders through regular visits participation in meeting organize joint field visits and submission of reports.
  • Provide recommendations to the farmers on improving soil fertility irrigated agronomic measures such as raised-bed furrow irrigation, fertilizer application rates and methods and water saving for increasing crop production.
  • Any other duties assigned and project manager.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Agronomy or Agriculture Extension.
  • At least t3 years of progressive work experience in the similar roles in the field of food security and nutrition livelihood agriculture extension value chain and marketing projects with INGOs or Afghan NGOS.
  • Experience in Agriculture marketing and business linkages; delivery of filed level extension activities, organizing training and delivering and training received in related subjects.
  • Experience in developing agriculture/agronomy based training curricula agriculture value chain marketing and business development.
  • Experience in facilitating agriculture extension methodologies particularly farmers field school and self help groups with the demonstration of participatory research and technology development following demonstration farm is preferred.
  • Understand on research and survey methodologies designing and implementing food security and nutrition survey value chain study and market assessment is required.
  • Good spoken and written skills in English and Pashto and Dari language and possess good skills in report writing.
  • General relevant computer skills including Microsoft word, excel and power point.
  • Ability to travel to various districts of Kandahar province.
