AABRAR is a local Afghan non-government organization concerned with the rehabilitation and socioeconomic integration of disabled people and other vulnerable groups into the community.
Founded in 1992, AABRAR began a bicycle-training program for amputees to improve mobility and increase their independence, enabling them to travel to and from work, and save on transpositions costs. Since then, AABRAR has expanded its activities to offer a range of services to vulnerable people, designing special programs for women and children to address their needs. Programs include physiotherapy and health care, bicycle training, vocational trainings, numeracy and literacy classes, mine awareness, Education, health education, Livelihood, WASH and various sporting activities. AABRAR also works in the area of social development, helping to raise awareness of the rights of disabled people within Afghanistan and dispel negative attitudes towards disability.
AABRAR has widened its beneficiary classification to include other vulnerable groups such as widows, orphans, unemployed people, youth, ex-combatants, and street children, so as to reach those people most in need of assistance.
Job Description
Job Summary:
The Trainer and Community Mobilizer is responsible for facilitating capacity-building initiatives and mobilizing community engagement in the Community-Based Schools (CBS) program in Herat. This role focuses on empowering local educators, parents, and community members to actively support and participate in the educational process, especially for marginalized groups, including girls and underserved populations.
Under the supervision of Education Officer, the incumbent of this position will perform the following specific activities:
- Develop and deliver training programs for teachers, school management committees, and community members on effective teaching methodologies, curriculum delivery, and education management.
- Create training materials and resources that are culturally and contextually relevant..
- Conduct training and workshops for teachers, community members, and school management personnel.
- Organize community meetings and events to raise awareness about the importance of education and encourage community participation.
- Foster strong relationships with community leaders, parents, and other stakeholders to build support for CBS initiatives.
- Conduct participatory needs assessments to identify specific challenges and opportunities within the community related to education.
- Utilize feedback from community members to tailor training and mobilization efforts.
- Monitor the effectiveness of training programs and community mobilization activities, collecting feedback and data for evaluation purposes.
- Report regularly on community engagement efforts and program impacts to the management team.
- Advocate for inclusive education practices that accommodate all children, particularly girls and children with disabilities.
- Work towards creating a supportive environment for marginalized groups in education.
- Perform any other relevant task as assigned by the Line Manager.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in training, community mobilization, or education programs, preferably in an Afghan context.
- Strong understanding of local communities and cultural dynamics related to education.
- Previous experience working with local communities and stakeholders.
