JEAO is working in Afghanistan since 2007, implementing integrated health projects managed mainly by national staff supported technically and management wise by expatriate staff from head office.

Job Descriptions:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1- Training Delivery

  • Deliver Entrepreneurial Skills Training: Conduct comprehensive training sessions based on the Entrepreneurial Skills curriculum, totaling 60 learning hours. The sessions should be delivered across an extended training cycle, ensuring learners have adequate time for understanding, reflection, and practical application. The delivery should be carried out in close coordination with the Literacy and Livelihood Skills Facilitator and the District Community Mobilizer (DCM) to ensure integrated and complementary support for learners.
  • Apply Inclusive and Learner-Centered Methodologies: Utilise participatory, and inclusive training approaches that are adapted to the learners' varying literacy levels and comprehension abilities. Emphasis should be placed on creating a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment that encourages active participation and practical understanding.
  • Facilitate Practical and Contextualized Learning: Enhance learning by incorporating real-life examples, locally relevant case studies, role plays, and simulations. Encourage group work, open discussions, peer-to-peer learning, and problem-solving activities. Support learners in developing viable business ideas and guide them through the process of creating realistic and actionable business plans.
  • Ensure Timely Completion of Training: Adhere strictly to the agreed-upon training schedule, ensuring that all sessions are delivered in a timely and effective manner. Monitor learners’ progress throughout the training cycle and make necessary adjustments to ensure that learning objectives are met and that participants are well-prepared to transition into the post-training mentorship or business support phase.

 

2- Mentoring and Follow-Up

  • Provide continuous mentoring support to learners throughout the training period and post-training phase to ensure their successful transition from learning to practical business implementation.
  • Assist learners in refining their business ideas and guiding them in the development of realistic and feasible business plans tailored to their local context, personal skills, and available resources.
  • Facilitate individualized mentoring sessions with each learner, either in person or, where in-person support is not feasible, through phone-based communication. These sessions should provide tailored guidance and support based on the learner’s specific business plan, progress, and challenges. The mentor should ensure regular follow-up, encourage problem-solving, and assist learners in taking practical steps toward launching or improving their small business initiatives.
  • Provide step-by-step support on essential business operations, including but not limited to budgeting, procurement, pricing, customer service, and record-keeping. Help learners build a foundational understanding of how to manage and sustain a micro-business.
  • Facilitate periodic group mentoring sessions focusing on practical topics such as basic financial management, marketing strategies, customer engagement, and potential for business growth and expansion. These group discussions should also promote peer learning and networking.
  • Collaborate closely with the SDL programme team, particularly the Literacy and Livelihood Skills Facilitator and District Community Mobilizer (DCM), to track learner progress, identify challenges, and coordinate timely support interventions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all mentoring activities. Use standardized log sheets and reporting templates to record session details, learner feedback, identified needs, and progress toward business milestones.
  • Encourage peer collaboration among learners by facilitating the exchange of ideas, resources, and mutual support. Promote group-based initiatives or shared ventures when appropriate to enhance sustainability and business resilience.
  • Support learners in exploring local market linkages, including identifying nearby shops, local vendors, and informal business networks that can offer in-kind support such as workspace, promotional opportunities, or access to broader customer bases.
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports to the assigned Business Development Specialist, who will provide training, technical guidance, and coaching to mentors throughout the project. Reports should highlight successes, challenges, and recommendations for ongoing support.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Education, Economics, or related field.
  • At least one year of experience in entrepreneurship training, youth development, or skills-based literacy initiatives.
  • Proven ability to deliver training to low-literacy or mixed-ability learners using interactive and practical approaches.
  • Experience providing mentoring or coaching to learners or micro-entrepreneurs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and awareness of cultural sensitivities.
  • Proficiency in Dari or Pashto is required; knowledge of English is an asset.
  • Familiarity with local business practices, markets and challenges especially for women and adolescent girls.
