About Future Generations Afghanistan
Future Generations (FG) is the collective name for an international network of non-governmental organizations including FG Country Programs in Asia and Africa, Future Generations University (FGU) and its alumni in 17 countries, academia, and individual’s experts. The original charitable organization, Future Generations, was established in 1992 for the purpose of learning from, and building upon the world’s most successful examples of community empowerment and social change. It is complemented by the Future Generations Graduate School (Future Generations University) in 2006 in the State of West Virginia with authorization to provide a Master's Degree in Applied Community Change focus on Conservation and Peace building. The Future Generations Afghanistan (FGA) established in May 2002 and obtained its registration certificate from Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan in October 2005. Since 2007, FGA has been operational in Eastern Afghanistan, and successfully completed development and humanitarian programs in Nangarhar, Laghman , Kunar, Nuristan, Logar, Wardak, Nimruz, Herat, Kanadahar, Badghis, Panjshir and Bamyan Provinces
Job Description
Responsible for providing technical expertise in the design, planning, implementation, and monitoring of all watershed management and climate change adaptation activities.
Integrate watershed management and climate resilience strategies into program design and implementation and to identify intervention hotspots and design climate-smart watershed strategies
Job Requirements
- Guide site selection and interventions, including water conservation techniques.
- Develop training materials/manuals and conduct capacity-building workshops
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to integrate climate resilience into project activities.
- Conduct assessments to identify vulnerabilities and opportunities related to climate resilience in target provinces.
- Organize and facilitate workshops and training sessions to enhance the knowledge and skills of the project team in climate resilience and watershed management.
- Provide ongoing support and mentorship to project staff and partners to reinforce learning and application of climate resilience practices.
- Establish and maintain a robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning system to track the progress and impact of watershed management initiatives.
- Support the design and implementation of capacity enhancement and networking program on integrated watershed management for various stakeholders from the provinces.
- Lead the design of detailed watershed management plans, including contour mapping, site selection for structural and vegetative measures, and development of catchment treatment plans.
- Design and promote climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction (DRR) measures tailored to the Afghan context (e.g., drought-resistant crops, water harvesting techniques, flood mitigation structures).
- Establish indicators for resilience, track progress, and produce regular reports.
- Develop and implement climate resilience strategies within the project framework.
- Promote sustainable watershed management practices that benefit youth and local communities.
- Ensure a strong gender and protection lens is applied in all activities, promoting the equitable participation and benefits for women, youth, and marginalized groups.
Qualifications:
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of climate resilience strategies, watershed management practices, and capacity-building methodologies.
- Excellent skills in communication, organizational, interpersonal relations, decision-making, financial management and reporting.
- A results-oriented approach to delivering work priorities in personal workload.
