Job Descriptions:

Screening and Referral

  • Conduct regular screening of children under 5 years old using MUAC, weight, height, and edema checks to identify malnutrition cases.
  • Screen pregnant and lactating women (PLWs) for nutritional status as per national IMAM guidelines.
  • Register screened children and PLWs and ensure accurate recording in tally sheets/registers.
  • Refer malnourished cases to appropriate nutrition services (OTP, TSFP, SC, or health facilities) and follow up on referrals.

Health and Nutrition Education

  • Conduct daily health and nutrition education sessions for caregivers, focusing on maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN).
  • Provide social and behaviour change (SBC) messages to caregivers, families, and communities on hygiene, sanitation, breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and dietary diversity.
  • Use job aids, flip charts, and counselling cards to deliver effective health and nutrition messages.

Food Demonstration

  • Organize and conduct weekly food demonstration sessions to teach mothers/caregivers how to prepare affordable, diverse, and nutritious meals using locally available foods.
  • Encourage active participation of caregivers during sessions and promote safe food preparation and hygiene practices.

Community Mobilization

  • Mobilize and sensitize communities on the importance of early screening and timely referral of malnourished children and PLWs.
  • Encourage male family members and community leaders to support nutrition and health practices at household and community levels.

Support to Health Facility

  • Assist health workers in nutrition activities at the Basic Health Center.
  • Monitor stock levels of nutrition screening tools (MUAC tapes, registers, counselling cards) and promptly report shortages.

Record Keeping and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of all screened children and PLWs, referrals, and education sessions.
  • Prepare and submit daily/weekly/monthly reports to the nutrition supervisor/facility in charge.

Coordination & Teamwork

  • Work closely with nutrition counsellor, nurses, midwives, and other health facility staff to ensure smooth implementation of nutrition activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and refresher courses as required.

Other Duties

  • Ensure confidentiality, respect, and dignity when interacting with caregivers and community members.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) measures during service delivery.

Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor to support health and nutrition services at the BHC.

Job Requirements:

  • Education:  Female, At least completed 12th grade, Graduate from religious school, any potential women who have the basic reading and writing knowledge (in areas school student is not available) and can communicate in the local language.
  • Experience: Previous experience in nutrition counselling in health facilities under BPHS is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Proficient in basic record-keeping and reporting.

Working Conditions:

  • May involve working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.

Exposure to various health conditions and potential hazards
