Job Descriptions:

General

  • Conduct GMP based counselling of mothers/caregivers of all children under two years of age on appropriate Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) practices and infection prevention.
  • Register and undertake Growth Monitoring and Promotion (GMP) including measure weight, height, age and check edema and (plotting weight-for-age and interpreting results) of all children under two years of age.
  • Conduct daily health and nutrition education sessions for caregivers, focusing on maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN).
  • If child is suffering from Sever Acute Malnutrition (SAM), refer to the doctor/nutrition nurse of the clinic for giving adequate treatment and counselling.
  • Collaborate with nutrition nurses and health staff to ensure integrated service delivery (link between counselling, treatment, and health services).
  • Check whether child has received Vitamin A supplementation during the previous NID, if no then refer to the administrator of Vitamin A in Clinic
  • Participate and support screener in Complementary Feeding food demonstrations sessions.
  • Perform additional nutrition-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Counselling on Maternal Nutrition:

  • Provide one-on-one counselling sessions for mothers, caregivers, and PLWs (Pregnant and Lactating Women) on maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN).
  • Develop tailored counselling plans based on the nutritional needs, health status, and socio-economic context of each client.
  • Address barriers to optimal feeding (e.g., myths, taboos, misconceptions, and cultural practices).
  • Measure lactating mothers MUAC, weight, height and find BMI and categories as normal, underweight, overweight and obese after the first PNC till the Mother Breastfeed her child.
  • Counsel mothers on proper breastfeeding techniques, positioning, attachment, and management of breastfeeding challenges (e.g., low milk supply, mastitis, refusal to breastfeed).
  • Provide complementary feeding advice for children 6–23 months, focusing on meal frequency, food diversity, and portion sizes.
  • Counsel PLWs on increased nutritional needs, balanced diet, and rest during pregnancy and lactation.
  • Check whether lactating Mother receive adequate IFA tablets during three months after delivery

At the Community level:

  • Work and coordinate with Community Health Supervisors (CHSs) and Community Health Workers (CHWs) during the CHW monthly meetings to:
    • To Share the GMP defaulter cases list with CHW and follow up
    • To ensure that the GPM session conducted in community by CHW regularly.
    • Mentoring CHWs on topics such as GMP, counselling skills, proper home visit
  • Recording and Reporting:
  • Maintain regular reports to monitor and track delivery of nutrition services.

Using MCH handbook during GMP and counselling and prepare its reporting.

Job Requirements:

  • Education:  Female, At least completed 9th grade, Graduate from religious school, any potential women who have the basic reading and writing knowledge (in areas school student is not available) and can communicate in the local language.
  • Experience: Previous experience in nutrition counselling in health facilities under BPHS is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Proficient in basic record-keeping and reporting.

Working Conditions:

  • May involve working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Exposure to various health conditions and potential hazards.
