It enjoys consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and is a signatory to the Code of Conduct for International Red Cross and red Crescent Moments and NGOs in Disaster Relief. Islamic Relief has been working in Afghanistan for more than 23 years, providing emergency relief and implementing life-changing development projects for some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Islamic Relief set up our first Afghanistan office in 1999. Since then, IRA continued providing assistances in emergency relief, food security, livelihood, education, health, nutrition, shelter, orphan sponsorship, Ramadan and Qurbani programmes.

Job Descriptions:

Reporting directly to the Head of MEAL, the MEAL Assistant will support the MEAL department in administrative tasks, field monitoring, data collection, and ensuring accountability and learning mechanisms are effectively implemented. The role requires a proactive approach to assist in various MEAL activities, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and enhancing the impact of the programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Administrative Support:

  • Assist the Head of MEAL with daily administrative tasks.
  • Help in preparing MEAL reports and documentation.
  • Organize and maintain MEAL-related data and files.

Field Monitoring and Data Collection:

  • Mobilize and conduct field visits to ensure accurate implementation of MEAL frameworks.
  • Assist in collecting data through surveys, interviews, and other data collection methods.
  • Support in verifying data quality and integrity.

Accountability and Complaints Handling:

  • Gather complaints and feedback from beneficiaries and stakeholders.
  • Assist in managing the complaints mechanism process to ensure timely and appropriate responses.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and anonymity of complainants.

Learning and Capacity Building:

  • Participate in MEAL training and workshops.
  • Support the dissemination of learning and best practices within the organization.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives based on MEAL findings.

Collaboration and Reporting:

  • Work closely with other departments to integrate MEAL practices.
  • Assist in preparing periodic MEAL reports and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Participate in MEAL meetings and provide updates on tasks and progress.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics, or related field.

Experience: 

  • 2 to 3 Years Experience in monitoring and evaluation, data collection, or a related field or similar position
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in data management software KoBoToolbox, Activity info.
  • Ability to work flexibly and travel to field sites.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Familiarity with the sector-specific context and standards (e.g., Livelihood, health, education, humanitarian aid).
  • Language proficiency in English and local languages (Dari and Pasto) required.
