The International Assistance Mission (IAM) is an International Non-Government Organization registered in Switzerland (registration #CH-660-1239000-6) and Afghanistan (registration #001). IAM is one of the oldest NGOs in Afghanistan. IAM established the NOOR (National Organization for Ophthalmic Rehabilitation) Eye Care Programme in 1966 with the goal of providing high quality and affordable access to eye care to the people of Afghanistan.

Key responsibilities and tasks:

1. At all times when on duty, wear the hospital uniform provided. Staff are responsible for keeping their uniforms clean and repaired.
2. Adhere to and enforce OT sterility for all personnel, including Doctors, that all staff wear proper scrub attire (clothes, mask, cap, no jewelry). Prohibit all food from being in the operating room.
3. Ensure that the OT Nurse reviews the case lists daily and sets up the operating room for efficient handling of cases.
4. Ensure that patients are adequately prepared for surgery and for transport back to ward.
5. Set up, or supervise the set-up, of instrument sets for immediate use, following sterile technique.  Supply suture and additional materials as necessary for surgery.
6. Ensure that the Anesthetist and/or Nurse Anesthetist have adequate assistance as requested.
7. Manage all operating room equipment. Ensure that the equipment is always in operable condition.
8. Report or submit broken equipment for repair or replacement to the Administrator or Administrative Assistant.
9. Maintain stock of all necessary consumable supplies within the operating room.  Maintain accurate inventory of surgical and sterilization equipment.
10. Keep complete and legible records.
11. Perform other duties as requested in OT.
12. Perform other tasks as requested by NOOR Program.

Qualification and Experience:

• Successful completion of acceptable three-years nursing program or three-years Ophthalmic Technician
• Fluency in spoken Dari and Pushto
• Basic proficiency in written English
• No prior experience, but healthcare or ophthalmic internship experience is a plus
