IAM is one of the oldest NGOs in Afghanistan. IAM established the NOOR (National Organization for Ophthalmic Rehabilitation) Eye Care Programme in 1966 with the goal of providing high quality and affordable access to eye care to the people of Afghanistan.

Job Descriptions:

Key responsibilities and tasks:​​​​​

  1. At all times when on duty, wear the hospital uniform provided. Staff are responsible for keeping their uniforms clean and repaired.
  2. Review the glasses room, lensometer, display cases, and other equipment in the eyewear manufacturing section.
  3. Assist and guide patients, especially in the OPD (Outpatient Department) and the refraction room.
  4. Write the refraction prescription clearly and legibly in the logbook.
  5. Provide acceptable responses for patients who need glasses.
  6. Regularly record eyewear reports in the log.
  7. Maintain records and be a good responder for administration.
  8. Assist other staff members when necessary.
  9. Register all types of frames and lenses in the daily database.
  10. Advise and educate patients as to their needs and options for various kinds of glasses.
  11. Give a legible glasses prescription with adequate information for patients needing or wanting glasses.
  12. Record all findings and recommendations legibly and accurately on the patient hospital card.
  13. Assist with and perform simple extraocular eye surgery under physician supervision as requested.
  14. Participate in eye camps and community eye work when requested.
  15. Perform health educations for patients or at community level as requested.

Job Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the OTTP program or graduation from a Nursing Department
  • No prior work experience required; however, internship experience in healthcare or ophthalmology is an advantage
  • Reasonable fluency in spoken Dari and Pashto
  • Basic proficiency in written English
