Job Descriptions:

Job Description

The livestock officer will play a vital role in enhancing livestock management practices and improving animal health within the community. The incumbent will work closely with farmers, local stakeholders, and veterinary services to promote sustainable livestock development and ensure food security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess the health and well-being of livestock in the community.
  • Conduct training sessions on best practices in animal husbandry and sustainable livestock management.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance on veterinary care and disease prevention.
  • Identify and support vulnerable livestock owners who may require assistance or resources.
  • Collect data related to livestock health, production, and community engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with local agencies and organizations to implement livestock improvement programs.
  • Report on livestock-related challenges, gaps, and successes to the Project Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in animal sciences, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in community engagement or livelihood programs.
  • Strong understanding of livestock practices in Kandahar and Afghanistan.
  • Experience working with refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), women, or marginalized communities is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging environments.
  • Fluency in Dari and Pashto; proficiency in English is an asset.
