Job Description

Scope of work: 

The Fundraising, Grants & Proposal Writing Manager at ASLO is responsible for securing funding through grant proposals, donor engagement, and fundraising initiatives. This role requires strong writing skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to build relationships with institutional donors, development partners, and private sector sponsors. The position will ensure ASLO’s financial sustainability by identifying funding opportunities and developing compelling proposals aligned with the organization’s mission.

Main Responsibilities:

Grants & Proposal Development

  • Research and identify funding opportunities, including grants, RFPs, and donor solicitations.
  • Develop high-quality grant proposals, concept notes, and funding applications.
  • Collaborate with program, finance, and M&E teams to gather technical inputs, budgets, and sustainability strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with donor guidelines, submission requirements, and organizational standards.
  • Maintain a database of past proposals, donor requirements, and funding trends.

Fundraising & Business Development

  • Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to diversify ASLO’s funding sources (grants, partnerships, sponsorships, and individual donors).
  • Organize fundraising campaigns, donor events, and online giving initiatives.
  • Identify and engage with new donors, foundations, and private-sector partners to expand funding streams.
  • Represent ASLO in donor meetings, funding forums, and networking events.

Donor & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, funding agencies, and development partners.
  • Develop a donor engagement strategy and maintain a donor database with key contacts and funding timelines.
  • Prepare donor reports, presentations, and updates on ASLO’s impact and funding needs.

Capacity Building & Internal Coordination

  • Train and mentor ASLO staff on grant writing, donor engagement, and fundraising strategies.
  • Work closely with program, finance, and communications teams to ensure alignment of proposals with ASLO’s strategic goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate fundraising efforts to improve success rates and funding impact.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Business Administration, International Development, Communications, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, or business development for NGOs.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven track record in securing funding from institutional donors (EU, UN agencies, World Bank, etc.).
  • Strong grant writing, research, and proposal development skills.
  • Experience in fundraising campaigns, donor relations, and business development.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple proposals simultaneously.
  • Strong networking skills and familiarity with donor funding mechanisms.
