Program Description: The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Position Overview
The Position of Nurse will be based in UHI priority HFs of Kabul city and will work to provide patient
care at OPD, IPD, operation theatre and Emergency units of the HFs

Responsibilities
1. Registration and recording of TB patients in the (presumptive TB register, TB Treatment register,
treatment card, contact investigation register)
2. Distribute the anti‐drugs to the patients and daily DOT
3. Health education and counseling for the patients
4. Weighing the patients and calculating the drugs based on body weight and preparing the drug
box for each patient
5. Active contact screening from the household members of the index TB patients
6. Follow up on the patient's treatment course (follow exam at the end of months 2, 4, and end of
the treatment)
7. Consult with an OPD doctor or specialist on the clinical diagnosis or extrapulmonary TB patients
8. Prepare the monthly and quarterly reports of TB in consultation with related in charge of HFs
9. The filling system of the DOTS room
10. Collect sputum and refer it to Lab for examination with TB05
11. Trace the lost to follow‐up patients ( trace patients who are absent for their treatment)
12. Identify the presumptive DR‐ TB cases and refer to GeneXpert
13. Provide IPT for children under the age of five years
14. Participate in the training courses, and quarterly workshops conducted by NTP and partners
15. Consider the IP measures in the DOTS room and use IEC materials in the DOTS room

Qualification Required:
Certified Nurse
At least two years of experience in a similar position
Abilities/Skills:
Ability to work successfully in teams, across a diverse team in a complex environment with multiple
tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
Strong skills in facilitation, team building and coordination
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including strong writing, analytical and
communication skills in Dari, Pashtu and English (preferable
