Job Descriptions:

  • Overview:
    The Afghanistan Journalists Support Organization (AJSO) is seeking an experienced Database and Information Management Officer. This position requires a dedicated individual with Familiarity with database management systems and relevant software for data entry and processing.
  •  

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Data Entry and Updates:
    • Accurately and promptly enter journalists' information, abuses, and incidents into the database system to maintain a comprehensive and reliable data repository.
    • Regularly update the existing information in the database to ensure the accuracy and validity of the data, following the organization's specific protocols.
    • Collaborate with the database supervisor to improve data entry processes and ensure compliance with defined standards.
  2. Support in Data Collection:
    • Assist in collecting the required data from various sources, including interviews, reports, and media, according to specified guidelines.
    • Participate in data analysis to identify relevant patterns and trends, and provide insights to the database supervisor.
    • Ensure that the collected data comes from credible sources and is effectively entered into the database.
  3. Data Maintenance and Security:
    • Maintain and support the existing data in the database, adhering to the principles of data security and protection.
    • Perform daily tasks related to data backups and troubleshoot issues with data maintenance in case of technical problems.
    • Report any discrepancies or issues in the data to the database supervisor and follow up to resolve them.
  4. Communication and Team Collaboration:
    • Work with other departments to facilitate the exchange of information and ensure a clear understanding of the information needs.
    • Attend team meetings to exchange information and improve the quality of work and the processes of data collection and management.
    • Submit periodic reports to the database supervisor on the status of the data and the organization’s information needs.
  5. Training and User Support:
    • Attend training sessions on using database systems and data entry processes to enhance knowledge and skills.
    • Provide initial support to organizational users in resolving issues related to data entry and access.
    • Assist newcomers in familiarizing themselves with the existing systems and the organization's workflows.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Create and maintain documentation related to data entry and maintenance processes in the database to facilitate access to information and knowledge.
    • Prepare regular reports on activities and the data collected, and present them to the database supervisor and organizational managers.
    • Analyze documentation to identify potential deficiencies and suggest improvements in work processes.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

    • Minimum qualification: Completion of Laravel and MySQL programs, or a related field such as computer science or information management.
    • Work experience: At least 1 to 3 years in data entry and management in NGOs or similar sectors.
    • Familiarity with database management systems and relevant software for data entry and processing.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
