About Afghan Amputee Bicyclists for Rehabilitation And Recreation (AABRAR):

AABRAR is a local Afghan non-government organization concerned with the rehabilitation and socioeconomic integration of disabled people and other vulnerable groups into the community.

Founded in 1992, AABRAR began a bicycle-training program for amputees to improve mobility and increase their independence, enabling them to travel to and from work, and save on transportations costs. Since then, AABRAR has expanded its activities  to  offer  a  range  of  services  to  vulnerable  people,  designing  special programs for women and children to address their needs. Programs include physiotherapy and health care, bicycle training, vocational trainings, numeracy and literacy classes, mine awareness, Education, health education, Livelihood, WASH and various sporting activities. AABRAR also works in the area of social development, helping to raise awareness of the rights of disabled people within Afghanistan and dispel negative attitudes towards disability.

AABRAR has widened its beneficiary classification to include other vulnerable groups such as widows, orphans, unemployed people, youth, ex-combatants, and street children, so as to reach those people most in need of assistance.

Job Description

1. Purpose of the Position:

  • The Nutrition officer will Work with the Project Coordinator and other staff to promote the effective implementation of Nutrition activities and lead/Support in the planning, Quatification, and selection of nutrition services sites establishment and operation
  •       She will be directly supervised by the Project Coordinator for day-to-day work and getting the updates    of the activites.

    2. Reporting line:

The Nutrition  officer prepares and submits timely information/situation and activity reports to the Nutrition supervisor of all the activities under his TOR. The reports shall include, but are not limited to: Monthly, quarterly reports.

3. Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Lead/support in the planning, quantification, and selection of nutrition services sites establishment and operations
  2. Assist the community Nutrition workers in implementing nutrition activities to develop monthly work plans.
  3. Identify several community leaders, religious people, and school Teachers who will work closely with the program at the village.
  4. Organize and Conduct training for community elders, schoolteachers, and religious leaders in community sensitization on malnutrition and other IYCF practices in different villages.
  5. Organize and Conduct training for Nutrition Volunteers/Promoters
  6. Organize community awareness-raising campaigns on Nutrition issues in close collaboration with community elders, schoolteachers, and religious leaders.
  7. Meet regularly with beneficiary communities and leaders, to ensure project effectiveness and community involvement in decision-making on project services.
  8. Provide joint supportive supervision to project sites, on-the-job training to staff and undertake regular joint monitoring of the project activities.
  9. Perform any other task relevant to the scope of work as assigned by the line
  10. Ensure training for all Nutrition Counsellors working with BPHS Implementer NGO

Job Requirements

  • MD with a minimum of one-year relevant experience
  • Experience in planning and organizing activities in a variety of locations.
  • Proven capacity to supervise, train, and coach local staff and community workers.
  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive, and empathize with children and their careers.
  • Understanding the local language and culture is an asset.
