Job summary:

The Gender Coordinator will be responsible for gender equality standards and objectives into FMIC and (APA-AKU procedures/policies, and also job descriptions and Performance Management. She/ He will be working with FMIC and APA-AKU to design and facilitate the implementation of activities intended to address the gender equality goals of the organization and to ensure consistency with Gender Equality Policy and donors requirements. 

Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate would be able to:

  • Help the agency develop an institutional gender policy. 
  • Raise awareness of our staff regarding gender issues.
  • Provide support to FMIC and APA-AKU in building gender equality standards and objectives in their programmes, projects and policies.
  • Support to incorporate gender aspects in HR policies (job descriptions and performance management); and institutional policies.
  • Incorporate gender into proposals and make them more gender balanced.
  • Support the Senior Management Team in liaising and networking with government, international community, partners, NGOs, civil society and private sector at national and regional levels in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment programs and projects.   
  • Support division/department/projects to document best practices/case studies of gender equality and women empowerment programs/projects and activities.  
  • In close collaboration with the staff support the development of gender manual and, tools, and review gender training packages to ensure consistency with institutional gender policy.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff in the development of gender-responsive indicators that are determined based on ground reality (gender analysis) against which results can be measured by both male and female. 
  • Plan, implement and report on all programme activities to control over barriers to participation of women in programmatic activities. 
  • Develop and supervise the progress and implementation of gender equality and social participation strategy, in order to consider gender equality in all programme activities.

Job Requirements:

Qualification and requirements:

  • Assertive with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Technical knowledge of gender mainstreaming, gender equality review/gender audit and gender analysis at organizational and programmatic levels.
  • Knowledge of Afghanistan Culture or social behaviors.
  • Trainer of trainer experience would be as significant asset.
  • Fluent in written and in English and local language/s.
  • Highly collaborative and accountable.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Respectful of both men’s and women’s views and opinions.
  • Self-motivated for taking new initiatives.
  • Willing to travel in selected provinces in Afghanistan, including Badakhshan.
