Job Description

The Internal Medicine Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to adult patients, including the diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic diseases. The position involves conducting patient assessments, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, monitoring patient progress, and ensuring high-quality clinical services in accordance with national and organizational standards. The Internal Medicine Specialist collaborates closely with other healthcare professionals to deliver integrated patient care, provides technical guidance to medical staff, and supports health promotion and disease prevention activities. The incumbent is expected to maintain accurate medical records, adhere to ethical and professional standards, and contribute to the continuous improvement of healthcare services within the facility.

Duties and Responsiblity:

  • Conduct comprehensive medical assessments, including patient history taking, physical examinations, and clinical evaluations.
  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions affecting adult patients.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and evidence-based medical practices.
  • Prescribe medications, therapies, and other interventions as appropriate, while monitoring their effectiveness and potential side effects.
  • Interpret laboratory results, radiological investigations, ECGs, and other diagnostic tests to support accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient medical care, including follow-up consultations and ongoing disease management.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide timely clinical interventions when required.
  • Coordinate patient care with other specialists, nurses, pharmacists, and healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive treatment.
  • Educate patients and their families on disease prevention, treatment plans, medication adherence, and healthy lifestyle practices.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement activities, case reviews, and medical meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with national health regulations, clinical protocols, infection prevention and control measures, and organizational policies.
  • Supervise and provide technical guidance to junior doctors, medical officers, interns, and other healthcare staff when required.
  • Contribute to capacity-building activities, including training and mentoring of healthcare personnel.
  • Prepare and submit medical reports, patient statistics, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Promote patient safety, confidentiality, dignity, and ethical medical practice at all times.
  • Support public health initiatives, disease surveillance, and health promotion activities as assigned.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Medical Director, Hospital Director, or relevant supervisor within the scope of the position.

 

Job Requirements

  • MD degree from a recognized medical university.
  • Valid medical license from relevant authorities.
  • At least 5 years of relevant clinical experience in the BPHS releleted project
  • Good knowledge of BPHS services and national treatment protocols.
  • Experience in maternal and child health services preferred.
  • Good computer and reporting skills are an advantage
  • Fluency in Pashto and/or Dari.
  • Basic English communication skills preferred.
  • Clinical diagnosis and patient management skills.
  • Communication and counseling abilities.
  • Teamwork and coordination skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Based at Ghanikhil DH, Nangarhar Province.
