Urban Health Initiative
The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people
living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable
populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by
Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in
Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar‐e‐Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.

Job Descriptions:

Job Summary:

The Clinical Mentor will play a crucial role in supporting and enhancing midwives'
clinical skills at our maternity care center. This position involves providing mentorship, guidance, and
training to ensure high standards of care for mothers and babies in alignment with MLMCC standards and
the midwifery model of care. The Clinical Mentor will work closely with the midwives to foster a
collaborative and supportive environment.


Key Responsibilities:


• Mentorship and Training: Provide one-on-one and group mentorship to midwives, focusing on
clinical skills, best practices, and professional development.
• Clinical Supervision: Oversee and evaluate the clinical performance of midwives, offering
constructive feedback and support.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure adherence to clinical guidelines and protocols, promoting evidencebased
practices.
• Support and Guidance: Offer emotional and professional support to midwives, helping them
navigate complex clinical situations.
• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the clinical team, including obstetricians, pediatricians,
and other healthcare professionals, to ensure comprehensive care.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate all MLMCC data records and mentorship activities, training
sessions, and clinical evaluations.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in clinical practice and contribute to the
development of policies and procedures.
 

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:


• Education: Bachelor's degree in Midwifery or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in midwifery, with a strong background in
maternal and newborn care.
• Certification: Current certification as a midwife and any relevant mentoring or teaching
qualifications.
• Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Strong clinical knowledge
and the ability to provide effective mentorship.
• Attributes: Compassionate, patient, and supportive, with a commitment to continuous learning
and professional development.
