Job Descriptions:

The purpose is to establish and broadly support the resilience and well-being of vulnerable children and young people through structured activities conducted in a safe, child friendly, and stimulating environment known as Child Friendly Spaces. Children in CFSs through (protection, health and nutrition) facilities will be offered child friendly activities like painting, drawing, storytelling, singing fun and sports teaching them child rights and child protection in an age-appropriate manner along with hand washing activities to promote hygiene of the children.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·  Supervise and provide vulnerable children with recreational (e.g. free and organized play, sports, traditional and modern games, etc.) and educational (non-formal educational activities, pre-school, drawing/painting, etc.) activities in a safe child friendly space.

·  Ensure a variety of structured games and activities within the CFS, catering to the needs of children of different ages, genders and abilities.

·  Draw calendar of activities for the children to be followed by topic and by week.  A daily/weekly activity schedule should include free time, recreation, expressive activities like drama, drawing and time for small group/large group activities.

·  Plan activities based on age of the beneficiaries (e.g. morning activities should be conducted for pre-school children aged 3 to 10 in an age appropriate and gender sensitive manner).

·  Plan activities for the coming week with a variety of programmes and activities for each age group, that engages girls’ active participation. Post the activity schedule at the beginning of each week so children know what to expect.

  • Use storytelling, singing, drawing, and games as a means of providing psychosocial support, teaching children about the culture, child rights and child protection in a respectful manner.
  • Ensure that the CFS is colourful and neat, clean, safe and displays child protection messaging in a way children can understand.

·  Promote equal participation by boys and girls.

·  Ensure a safe and child-friendly atmosphere within the CFS, and that no physical discipline or fighting occurs.

·  Ensure that children’s participation is considered in the development of the CFS and its activities.

·  Ensure that all games and equipment are accounted for and stored securely at the end of the day. Maintain an inventory of all things in the CFS and check the records weekly and submit to the supervisor

·  Ensure that children will be safe going to and from the CFS.

·  Screen for and monitor protection needs and gaps in and around the CFS.

·  Conduct a visual assessment of the children every day to check for possible protection concerns and/or identify children who are malnourished, or who have health or psychosocial risks. When necessary, refer to case workers or report to supervisor.

  • Track the psychosocial improvement in children attending the CFS using tools developed by INTERSOS.
  • If any child is found to have a child protection concern or reports a child protection risk / issue, immediately report to the supervisor.
  • Child Protection / Safeguarding messages should be displayed in the CFS and children should be taught on where and how to report child protection concerns.

·  Take accurate attendance every day.

·  Follow-up with children who are not coming to sessions.

·  Ensure that children have regular breaks so they can drink water and go to the toilet.

·  Ensure that water is delivered regularly, that there is enough for all children attending, and that it is safe to drink.

·  Promote participation by children who have mental or physical disabilities.

·  Attend scheduled staff meetings.

·  Be a positive role model and demonstrate conflict-solving behaviour.

·  Liaise with parents and the community regularly to keep them informed of any developments or problems within the CFS and surrounding areas.

  • Ensure that the CFS does not affect the school education of children. Children should be encouraged to join school if they have dropped out or are not attending school.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Candidates should have a Diploma in Early childhood care, preferable bachelor’s degree in Education, Sociology or Psychology or other related fields.

 

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience.
  • Prior experience working with children and in emergency contexts.
  • Observant and able to manage a group of up to 25 to 40 children at one time.
  • Must be able to employ positive methods of interaction with children and prevent inappropriate negative discipline or abuse.
  • Prior experience in NGO/INGO work preferred Necessary Skills and Competencies.
