About Concern Worldwide- Afghanistan:

Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Currently, Concern has been working in Afghanistan since 1998, when it responded to an earthquake disaster in Takhar province. Currently Concern has been working in Takhar and Badakhshan provinces undertaking both emergency response and long term developmental work in the areas of livelihood security, primary education and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. 

Job Descriptions:

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Gender and Inclusion Programming in Education and Nutrition Interventions:

  • Actively engage in education and nutrition interventions to ensure gender and inclusion aspects are considered and integrated in project interventions with 50% travel to (Chahab, Rustaq , Namakab  Districts of Takhar Province and Yawan and Raghistan District of Badakhshan Province)    
  • Effective and timely supporting of all interventions outlined under CoaST related to gender and inclusion activities
  • Effectively support education and nutrition activities such as, father and mother groups, PTSA women groups, CHW staffs and target beneficiaries
  • Assist project manager in developing plans and strategies related to gender trainings and established groups, follow up in all target areas
  • Development case studies and success stories related to gender and inclusion in education and nutrition programs

Technical Assistance and Capacity Building:

  • As part of the Inclusion team, promote gender and inclusion mainstreaming across Concern Worldwide projects and systems
  • Oversee consistent and the meaningful engagement of women in communities throughout education and nutrition project implementation
  • Actively support education and nutrition CDFs by providing technical assistance through gender trainings and assessments
  • Support with development of project proposals by providing gender and inclusion inputs
  • Activity participate in all internal gender and inclusion meetings, such as the Inclusion Working Group, and external meetings when needed
  • Support preparation for celebration of special days
  • Work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to conduct field visits for case studies and ensure regular data collection of gender and inclusion indicators, regular monitoring of activities, and accurate activity and beneficiary tracking
  • Provide technical support to enumerators when assessing any surveys related to gender issues as per the request
  • Any other tasks as requested by the Inclusion Advisor

Reporting and Communication:

  • Submit accurate monthly, quarterly work plans and reports related to gender trainings, education and nutrition
  • Liaise with logistic and finance team for all logistical and financial related issues such as SR tracking, updating procurement plan and assuring of on time payments.
  • Participating in stakeholders meeting at national and provincial level when needed.
  • Compile the weekly update from COAST programme and share with the weekly update focal point

Capacity Building:

  • Develop training modules on positive gender attitudes, inclusion and behaviors among men and women, as well as other gender and inclusion-related topics.
  • (Co-) facilitate gender and inclusion capacity building and induction trainings for staff members, stakeholders and in communities
  • Assess the capacity of male and female established groups using ratings and ensure their sustainability are in place
  • Support the implementation of the ‘Gender Attitudes and Practices’ survey in target communities with the M&E unit.

Other:

  • Gender Officer will closely work under the direct supervision of the Inclusion Advisor and indirect with the COAST Programme Manager to support education and nutrition CDFs in five target districts (Rustaq, Namakab, Chahab, Yawan and Raghistan)
  • Participate in staff recruitments when requested 
  • Acting CoaST project manager when requested as the rotational approach for the programme senior staffs  

Emergency/Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS):

  • Concern is committed to CHS to ensure downward accountability. CHS standards guide Concern activities in all stages both emergency and development projects /programs. In Afghanistan, we also bounded our activities by Accountability framework and therefore any Afghanistan employees is responsible to comply with CHS principles and benchmarks as instructed by its policies and therefore make sure that all accept and implement CHS standards in all our activities.
  • To give full support in relation to emergencies/ humanitarian operations when occurring in any area that Concern Afghanistan will respond. This can include but is not limited to participation in the Concern Afghanistan Rapid Deployment Unit (CARDU) and deployment on emergency response teams.

Job Requirements:

Qualification & Experience:

  • Graduate of economy university / social sciences or other related studies    
  • At least 5 years’ experience with gender or inclusion-related project implementation

Competencies & Skills:

  • Ability to work in remote communities throughout Takhar (Chah-ab, Rustaq & Namakab), and Badakhshan (Yawan and Raghistan) provinces.
  • Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point).
  • Excellent Dari and English speaking and writing ability.
  • Possess good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work with community members and spend 50% of time in the field as needed
