About MSI Reproductive Choices Afghanistan (MSIA):

MSI Reproductive Choices Afghanistan (MSIA) is a branch of MSI, a global, non-profit, and non-governmental organization headquartered in London, UK, and was established in August 2002 after registration with the Government of Afghanistan. MSIA follows the local mission statement of MSI: Improve Afghan women’s health and well-being so that they can, in turn, build strong, healthy families. Our vision is to be the organization that Afghan women seek out for high-quality, client-centered health care provided by women, for women.


We focus on reducing maternal mortality by providing quality and sustainable maternal-child health (MCH) and reproductive health (RH) services and information in 17 provinces of Afghanistan, namely Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Jawzjan Faryab, Nangarhar, Helmand, Kandahar, Baghlan, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Takhar, Samangan, Kapisa, Khost, Paktia, and Daikundi, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) of Afghanistan. 

MSIA strives to enhance women's health outcomes in the aforementioned provinces by delivering vital reproductive and maternal-child health services through multiple channels such as centers, outreaches, the private sector, and MS Ladies (Family Health Houses).

Job Descriptions:

  1. The Key main duties:
  • Data preparation is used to clean and transform raw data into the right shape and format for analysis, including making corrections and combining data sets.
  • Data catalogues help manage metadata to create a complete picture of the data, providing a summary of its changes, locations, and quality while also making the data easy to find.
  • Data warehouses are places to consolidate various data sources, contend with the many data types businesses store, and provide a clear route for data analysis.
  • Data governance defines standards, processes, and policies to maintain data security and integrity.
  • Data architecture provides a formal approach for creating and managing data flow.
  • Data security protects data from unauthorized access and corruption.
  • Data modelling documents the flow of data through an application or organization.
  1. Details duties
  • Create and enforce policies for effective data management and formulate techniques for quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy, and legitimacy of data.
  • Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling and analysis with attention to all technical aspects.
  • Establish rules and procedures for data sharing with upper management, external stakeholders etc.
  • Support others in the daily use of data systems and ensure adherence to legal and MSIA standards
  • Develop customized report base on Project requirement.
  • Assist with reports and data extraction when needed.
  • Monitor, supervise or oversees and analyse information, data entry staff and data systems and evaluate their performance to discover ways of enhancing them (new technologies, upgrades etc.) both for sun and CLIC.
  • Troubleshoot data-related problems and authorize maintenance or modifications.
  • Determine methods for quality data collection and support others in the daily use of data systems.
  • Compare and analyse provided statistical information to identify patterns, relationships, and problems.
  • Define and utilize statistical methods to solve organization-specific problems in varying fields, such as economics and cost.
  • Prepare detailed reports for management and other departments by analysing and interpreting data in monthly wise.
  • Train assistants and other members of the team how to properly organize findings and read data collected and use.
  • Develop and implement procedures for effective data management, create rules and procedures for data sharing.
  • Oversee and manage staff members in the daily use of data systems and guarantee adherence to legal and MSIA regulations.
  • Regularly monitor CLIC operators, data entry officer and evaluate information and data systems that could affect analytical results.
  • Assess system performance and make recommendations for software, hardware, and data storage improvements.
  • Manage all incoming data files and continually develop data management strategies.
  • Assist with recognizing and upholding digital security systems to protect delicate information.
  • Develops and designs methods and procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying information for input into computer and retrieval from computer, utilizing knowledge of symbolic language, optical or pattern recognition, database construction, and retrieval methods.
  • Develops alternate designs to resolve problems in input, storage, or retrieval of information, utilizing knowledge of electronic data processing principles, mathematics, and computer capabilities.
  • Consults with and advises clientele on the use and interpretation of data; collaborates as appropriate with clientele in the structuring and development of data requirements.
  • Performs needs assessment activities and works with other information systems personnel to determine feasibility of development of new databases and/or enhancements or modifications to existing databases.
  • Develops specifications for data capture and input; monitors input to ensure consistency, quality, and integrity of data.
  • Programs, debugs, and runs a variety of scheduled and ad hoc listings, summaries, statistics, labels, and other electronic and/or presentation reports.
  • Determine the kind of data to be collected and identify the resources with which to effectively collect them.
  • Organize, implement, and enforce correct data collection policies and methods.
  • Give proper training to employees to be able to perform data collection independently and effectively.
  • Always ensure the proper functioning of data collection software and Internet applications.
  • Make sure that data collection procedures are in line with all relevant rules and guidelines.
  • Establish standards upon which collection of data are based/measured and ensure that these standards are always met.
  • Conduct analysis to ensure that data collected is adequate and matches what was asked for.
  • Regularly reconcile month-end balance of service income for all channels.
  • Regular spot check and data validation of all channels, submission of analysis report to operation.
  • Any other activities assigned by management.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area e.g. Business Administration, Computer science, Data Management, Database administration or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in related field
  • Ability to coordinate the activities properly
  • Sensitivity to women’s health issues and awareness of social needs in Afghanistan (or similar context).
