Background:
Hand in Hand Afghanistan Organization (HIHAO) is a not-for-profit organization based in Afghanistan. It started operations in 2007. HIHAO is part of the international Hand in Hand (HiH) network of independent organizations, working together towards a shared vision to alleviate poverty through job creation. The overall Hand in Hand mission is to promote the economic and social empowerment of women, by supporting the creation of sustainable enterprises, improved livelihoods and jobs.
HIHAO has implemented projects funded by DFID, European Union, CAFOD, WFP, GIZ, USAID, WB, DANIDA, Sida, Hilti foundation, UNOCHA and Hand in Hand International through its main office in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh province of Afghanistan.

Job summary
Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the GIS and Design Engineer is overall responsible for the project implementation, managing day-to-day Engineering related activities of the project in the targeted communities in Kunduz province.
The GIS and Design Engineer will perform the following duties with transparency and integrity, and in adherence to the policies as provided by the HIHAO.
Key Responsibilities: Designing Construction Project and sub-Project.
Design, analyze, and manage water resource systems such as Agriculture infrastructure water supply, stormwater, wastewater, and irrigation systems.
Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using software tools such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, or SWMM.
Develop and evaluate design documents, including specifications, drawings, and calculations.
Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed projects.
Ensure that projects are finished on schedule and under budget by working together with project managers, other engineers, and clients.
Review and approve engineering design documents, including specifications, drawings, and calculations.
Prepare and present technical reports and presentations to clients and other stakeholders.
Ensure that water resource systems are designed and installed per applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
Provide technical guidance and support to other team members.
Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to water resources engineering.
